How to convert from .flv to .avi?

First of all I do hope to have chosen the right section for such a request.
Then the main course: does any of you have tried a good & simple program to convert .flv video files to .avi ones? Which one would you suggest me?

Actually what I really wanted was a .mpeg /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />.
I have a few .flv files I wanted to burn on a dvd and didn't know how to proceed.
To convert them seemed to me the easiest way.
