More scraps... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
OK, my other laptop that I was using this summer that died in Sept, I still have laying around...I'm not sure if it powers on or not, but I do feel that the motherboard had a shortage...In the laptop world, I think that this means "Get a New Laptop"...
Since I've done that, naturally, I want to see what I can salvage from the machine...
It came w/a P4 2.4 GHz, which I assume was a desktop chip because that bitch was hotter than Kayden in lingerie...It also had 1.5 GB's of PC2100 RAM, which I've given away 512 of it, which leaves me w/a GB...
The question is, do you chaps think that I would come out better trying to fix the laptop or maybe try to get a barebones and stick what's left of the old one in it..? The thing is, the laptop, when it was new, was top of the line, and built for business professionals...The exact specs of it I'm not sure, but I know that my computing from my desktop to that was only noticeable when I had that old HDD in it...Once I got a new one, it ran great, I could play games w/no problem and everything...
It did have a slight spot in the screen tho, a minor flaw...
I am relatively new to laptops, and realize that there are some of you that have been working with them for longer than my 5 months or so...Any help or advice is appreciated...

I'd recommend turning into a desktop, I mean - it's easier to salvage the parts (more compatible components still being produced and supported), plus then you can have two servers.. /:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />
Just a thought..

I'll tell you what you should not plan on doing is trying to pirate the LCD screen and hook it up to another source. All the BS proprietary connections make it an exercise in futility.
You could perhaps mod up some kind of case/furniture adaptation and run a stripped down linux distro on a RAM drive and just display ever changing pix as a slideshow via the built-in wifi and getting the images from your other fileserver you are working on.

I'll just snatch out the procesor then...The RAM I already have out, and I'm sure nobody wants a botched lcd...What would be great, is if I could find a barebones for a couple hundred bucks and maybe make another laptop out of it...

Dude, by far, that non opening of RAR's is the weirdest issue ever...
The new Winzip BETA will extract RAR's, try that..!

QUOTE(iMNO @ Nov 2 2006, 06:46 PM) Will the bitch open rar's? I'll buy it from ya.
I know...enough already!
have you also tried editing your file associations? or is it a matter of an overzealous IT person restricting what you can install on your computer which is preventing you from opening RAR's?
Before WAI says it, there is also LINUX which is more than capable of handling rar files!
If it is the overzealous IT monkey-boy scenario, I can provide a work-around for you!\
