I'm pretty sure our non US residents don't understand our infatuation with guns, just like we don't understand your non infatuation with them, so all of that aside, are any of you fans of guns and or gun owners..?

I myself own a handgun, a Tactical Smith and Wesson .45 [Model No. 4513TSW] complete with laser sight that I keep on me at all times..

I am thinking of selling it and maybe getting another one, although I really do like this pistol...

The "TacSAW .45" has a tendency to grind left. The laser sight will be a little off unless you cock the gun in your wrist do to this imbalance in slide action that many attribute to a weight imbalance. This also makes it feel more comfortable to the lack of pressure on the tarsals of the wrist. for this reason, this is one of the guns that is called a "holdout handgun" and will be more accurate if you hold your wrist about 15-20 degrees bear left of straight.

Every 13 rounds the sear guide action loses about .3% accuracy per magazine discharge and needs to be field stripped between reloads to accomodate powder build up. It compensate by having a tremendously low rate of missfire. good for a "need it now" condition which is standard to "tactical" status weapons. It is not a stable sidearm for anyone who wants a weapon with a low maintenance cycle that requires regular use, but is a good weapon for deterrent or emergency self-protection.

LoL, I've never read that anywhere, every place that I've seen rates the gun high...I've had no issues with it myself, although I don't fire it often...I just know it's a bit dated, and will probably upgrade to another model...

I have a Colt .45 ACP in mind, although I've been dreaming about a Desert Eagle Mark XIX...Carrying, much less firing that weapon, is probably something best reserved for Agents in the Matrix...

But they make a smaller version, and it may be just what I need...

Oh, I don't think you have a bad weapon, just a weapon that would not hold up to regular use without being babied. Smith & Wesson make a quality product, but it has the same quirks as any legacy product. Like a Harley Davidson, great bike, great feel and response - HIGH MAITENANCE, and if you are riding down to the corner, carry a can of oil.

Desert Eagle is high maitenance too and its a coin toss if it stovepipes (gets a cartridge stuck while ejecting. but really worth it in term of accuracy if you need that much stopping power. If you need to down a boar. In general, owning this pistol and no other indicates you know nothing of pistols, or do not use them. The power is impressive, but the stopping power is no better than a Browning hi-Power due to the density of human flesh and bone.

If I were going for a classic, I would prolly go with a Browning Hi-Power with adjustable rear sights and the optional stock. and remove the damned magazine safety, which is crap and will grind down unless polished or taken out completely. The gun is one of the most comfortable I have ever held, the action is solid, and the accuracy with stock and sights is crack-shot. You can unload 15 with this, and not even have a tension in your forearm.

for combat, that is a different story:

Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG) makes IMEO (in my experienced opinion) the best combat pistol for professional or regular use. It is the technical successor to the legacy of the "Luger". Ballistically, it is a .40 9mm semi-automatic (with a standard load cycle option on the P229). The entire SIG "P" series is worth it, and everyone who has to have a reliable weapon knows it.

The SIG P226 with a 5" barrell and single slide action is the only gun that can touch the SIG-SAUER 210, which is the most accurate and reliable combat pistol ever produced.

If you want tha' REAL upgrade to a combat pistol you want in your hand when the ish hits the fan, go SIG.

One note, though, a SIG has a safety that is a bit "easy" to switch off, with a flick of your wrist as you unholster it, you can go live fire. Only pull a SIG if you intend to or are willing to kill, and check the safety constantly. There is not a damn reason to point at someone you ever wish to see again.

I trained people to become proficient with combat pistols. I do not carry or own any, as a civilian, but I do maintain my licenses, to carry and conceal, and stand at approval for a wapon at my local firarms dealer. I can do more damage to a person with a pellet pistol and not incur punishment. So, I have a modified gas operated pellet pistol that takes 15 rounds and fires at a ramped up +70% psi. It could crack your skull at 16 paces, but not kill you. It is extremely silent, and accurate. And has the added bonus of not having the range or density to pass through my apartment walls.

In Louisiana, I have more guns than some police stations. Many of them are too old to be registered and some are still damn accurate.

Damn, remind me never to get on your bad side. That's crazy though about the pellet gun. You used to be SF right?

VBSS (Visit Board Search Seize) is what I volunteered for. You learn how to overcome vessels in International Waters and investigate their cargo. Basically, you learn everything about combat pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, and some mounted weapons. You also learn about Explosive Ordinance Disposal. You learn how to suppress an entire ship (if need be) with at most a lightly armed 12 man team.

It is not all fun, but it is a perfect way to find out how crazy you really are. VBSS is not for the meek.

My most accurate gun is an old .22 bolt action. It was originally used as a training gun by the Romanian army. Its very accurate, a lot better than what my Ruger 10-.22 is.
