Honestly, I'd really rather use re-formatting the drive as a last resort.

I looked in the events log, but didn't really see anything... but then I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I'd have to wait until I actually notice it freeze.

Kramer, Windows has millions of DLLs - to systematically determine which library is causing your system to freeze, would take soo much effort and time it's not funny.

But how do you know it's a problem with the DLLs...

Well, if it wasn't, then it'd be a kernel problem, though I doubt it - they haven't changed most of the kernel code since pre-1990.

It looks like I may have solved the issue. I was going through my power options last night with a friend, and I noticed that hibernate wasn't enabled. So I enabled it, just to see.

I woke up this morning at 6, and it wasn't frozen. I got back from class at 10, and again, it wasn't frozen.

I'm going to wait a couple days, see if it continues to work. If it does, great. If it doesn't, then I guess I'll have to format.

Buggy hibernate DLL, heh..
Check on Microsoft's KB Server, see if there's a patch available.
(to tell the truth, I've heard of the Power Options issue, seems to affect a lot of things).
