Movie Reviews

A movie reviews How-To:

Post a picture of the cover of the cd or a poster image so we know what to look for in the video store.

Either link the image to IMDB or provide a link below the picture.

If the flick is ripped and linked here at AF, provide that link too.

Give a quick summary of the plot. NO SPOILERS HERE! Opinions are ok but it may be better to break them out into a second paragraph.

Ratings: Use the smiley system to give your personal rating.
:( :( :( :( :( = Not worth the plastic it was imaged on
:) :( :( :( :( = Few redeeming values but better then a stick in the eye
:) :) :( :( :( = A "B" movie at best. Forget the plot and acting and just stair at the boobs.
:) :) :) :( :( = Not great but not bad.
:) :) :) :) :( = A good movie all around. Lacking in some areas but a recommendable film.
:) :) :) :) :) = AWSOME! I'll be buying this one even after I rip it from the net.
:| can be used as a 1/2 smile for in betweens.

If you post a movie in the Video/Movies section with a link, review it here so we know if it's any good.
Thanks for adding to the reviews!

The Illusionist

AYHJA Link: http://www.ayhja.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=348&t=17080

A very intriging movie done in an old movie style. The costumes and settings were very well done. The story is set in Vienna in the at the turn of the century. A magician uses his powers of illusion to win the love of a woman far above his social standing and challange the crown prince's rule. The film was very well done with one exception. The beginning starts in a present tense and flashes back to the past, but the time at which the flashback catches up with the present is not well defined. The flaw does not detract from the movie.

Alpha Dog http://www.ayhja.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=348&t=18389

My girlfriend and I decided to watch this one the other day and we got through about 20 minutes when we decided to turn it off. I decided to finish it off tonight and let me tell you I wish I just cut my losses at 20 mins instead of watching the whole damn thing. The movie is incredibly predictable and you know exactly what is going to happen next. Another thing that really irked me about the movie was the characters and their development. The way they behaved was so far fetched and over exaggerated. Like 20 minutes into the movie you're convinced that every character is a complete and utter loser. Just the way they act and speak is so damn irritating.

Just save yourself the time and pretend this movie doesn't even exist. Absolute garbage! Oh and in case you're wondering if Justin Timberlake can act, the answer is NO!

The Departed

This was a good mob movie with a great cast. It didn't live up to some of the hype it was given, but it had an involved plot and great character development. It's only detrament was it's length. (2:20+/- minutes) After all the set up and intrigue, the ending is quite a suprise. I enjoyed it, but I don't think I'll buy it.

The Presige

IMDB Link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482571/
AF Link: http://www.ayhja.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=348&t=18328

Synopsis: Alfred Borden and Robert Angier rise to become world-renowned stage magicians. Early in their careers, they meet and a bitter feud develops as they constantly try to out-do, and even sabotage, the other's acts. The frame story involves the great-grandchildren of Borden and Angier and their investigations into how their own lives have been affected by their ancestors' conflict. The events of the past are revealed primarily through each of the magicians' diaries.

My $0.02

<-- Pros --> What a great movie...Trust me when I say, you won't figure out what's going on until the very end unless you're a magician...Best film twist I have seen since the first Saw movie, and The Others before that...The film itself is literally a magic trick...Awesome shit...I enjoyed it, and will probably buy it on HD DVD...

<-- Cons --> These are mainly personal quirks, and take away nothing from the film...But there was a slight bit of Sci-Fi that was added that took away some of the 'magic' aspect of it, but it was otherwise an amazing piece of cinema and story telling...

Goal!

IMDB:http://imdb.com/title/tt0380389/

A young illegal alien in LA has a natural talent for soccer. His father sees soccer as nothing but a pass time and working as a gardener is the only way for them to support their family. When Sanitago is seen by a talent scout he saves his money to go to England to try out for Newcastle United creating tension between him and his father.

This was a good movie. It had a difficult start with all the subtitled Spanish. So many subtitles in fact, I thought I had selected the Spanish version of the movie. (if there is one) Once the English kicked in it was easier to follow until[\i] the "English" English kicked in and the accents became thick again. Beyond the language, the story was well written and usually believable.

Rating: :D :D :D :( :(

Her Minor Thing

I rented this last night for my wife and I to watch. It was funny and cute. IMDB.com rated it a 5.5 out of 10. The basic storyline is a young professional woman's (Estella Warren) TV news reporter boyfriend tells everyone in town that she is still a virgin. From there all hell breaks loose. Women rally to her "cause" and men see her as the ultimate challange. She is just a romantic and wants it to be special.

My wife and I both laughed and enjoyed the movie. It is a great date movie. There are no glaring nude sceens that will get your eyes knocked out of your head, but Estella Warren is still very hot. The comic romance makes it fun and can still get your girl interested in some romance of her own.

Rating: :D :D :D :( :(
