I see by looking through topics in here, hockey doesn't garner much support in the US of A. At least on this board. Curious. It's a highly skilled game. I have played football, baseball, and I suck supremely at basketball. I play hockey too, I used to play goalie, but the knees quit , so I play defense now.

Just curious what the aversion to this great game is.

All thoughts appreciated.

regards from oldgoalie to all you sportsfans.

You know, small black disc, men on steel runners trying to dismember one another chasing it around, a boarded in sheet of ice with glass so that spectators can witness the gore. Very territorial.

Or something like that.

I love hockey. I'm an Oilers fan. lol

Last summer when I went to Alberta to visit my sister, we made a trip to Edmonton so that I could buy an Oilers jersey at the West Edmonton Mall. lol

That place is friggin' huge! lol

Unfortunately my Oilers aren't doing much right now. They'll be lucky to make the 8th seed.

Man, I only care enough about hockey to want to see someone get their ass kicked, but looks like they're trying to crack down on that now...Plus, there are no cheerleaders in hockey, no incentive, lol...

Occasionally they will let the guys go at it, but not as often anymore. But even without the fights there's still a lot of psychical contact.

Sorry to hear that you are an Oilers fan. I am a Flames fan. The battle of Alberta has had some very intense games over the years. If it wasn't for Gretzky, Calgary would probably have more than just one cup. He carried that team on his back for the better part of a decade.

At least your not cheering for Vancouver.....LOL.

hey oldgoalie...i'm with you.

i've played ice hockey most of my life and nothing beats getting out there, flying around, blasting guys and scoring goals.

i'm a pens fan.....and for once, i can be proud to say that.

they're playing way over their head, but at least they likely will be in the playoffs.

as for the nhl....they need to be promoting the hell out of sid and ovy.

Speaking as a diehard fan from the states, I think the NHL, once it dumps VERSUS and gets back on ESPN (where it BELONGS), it will a experience a far greater TV audience. Right now, with all the new rules and young talent, the league is doing a crappy job marketing its new product for all those to see.

well...more posturing in the continuing saga of keeping the penguins in pittsburgh.

now, the team declares an impasse in negotiations and plans to negotiate with kansas city.

sigh...just build the damn the pens a new arena and be done with it.
