Narrow the search to your minimum requirements and then sort the results the way you want (by price, for example).

I should have mentioned that the inventory there churns fairly quickly - so if you see something you like, jump on it before it's gone. If you can't find what you are looking for, keep trying. You might just see the perfect system cycle through.

For that much, you should get a really kick ass laptop...Mine was about that much, sans the service plan...But of course my machine isn't practical for your kind of use...

To get the most bang for your buck, try the Dell Outlet. I have bought 2 desktops and a 17" (too damn big, actually) notebook from them over the last 4 years and have been happy with all three. I recommend deciding what you want feature-wise, then using the sort feature on the inventory pages to find one with what you want, at the price you're willing to pay. Try hitting the website very early in the morning, when the new inventory has been dumped in and few people have started to pick thru it yet.
