'Clearly Illegal'

BBC -- Viacom, which owns MTV and Nickelodeon,
says YouTube uses its shows illegally.

Viacom alleges that about 160,000 unauthorised clips of
its programmes have been loaded onto YouTube's site
and viewed more than 1.5 billion times.

Now, Youtube/Google is completely in the wrong at the moment with all the videos that haven't been removed/payed for, but.. did I mention I hated copyright laywers..? lol

At least in America, you have Fair Use, in Australia, we have the WORST copyright scheme, but it's great if you're a multi-million dollar copyright holder..

I doubt this will ever come to anything. Google/YouTube will probably try harder to remove the Viacom stuff on there (Which sadly includes the Comedy Central clips I so dearly love on there) and if there continues to be flagrant abuse some sort of settlement will be reached.

YouTube could solve all this with a simple "Report copyrighted material" link that takes you to a complex form to fill out with lots of required fields to keep spammers out. Then YouTube could ignore the form for a month claiming lack of manpower to handle the volume of reports. They would not be legally liable since they are trying to comply.

Ever since Google bought youtube, I haven't gone there is much...75% of the shit there or more is probably copyrighted, and that makes up about 95% of all the good shit on there...

God bless the net though, cause just as sure as one thing comes up that is groundbreaking (Napster) 100 more things arise in its place...
