You can use the term Blunt for a non-pot cigar as well. There are actually cigar smokers who buy cheap cigars for just their wraps and fill them with higher quality tobacco.

um, the word "Blunt" is a particular type of cigar. a brand name if you will.

Specifically it comes from "Phillies Blunt." These are cheap, and not smooth. Hence, the name.

They were broken and smokin because they burn slower and the rough leaf tobacco of the blunt was often pulled apart and filled with a smoother tobacco, making a good smoke that was less expensive than high-end cigars.

Somewhere along the way, someone decided to start adding pot to the mix, somewhere in the 80's.

Many brand names become unofficial terms for the kind of product they are.
