I've said it before, and I'll say it again..
Intel are currently the champs, but only because they just had an architecture change, unlike AMD, who did theirs quite a few years back..

Therefore, Intel could plan all their new chips on the information we've learnt over the past few years about CPUs, and their architecture..

Now, as soon as AMD's new CPU comes out, then we'll have competition with Intel - in the meantime, Intel are beating the crap out of many of the AMD processors.. lol

Not sure if this is true with Xeon vs Opteron..

Intel Penryn Core

In the mobile and desktop arenas, a Penryn derivative running at 3.2GHz offered performance roughly 20% higher than today™s most powerful Merom or Conroe-based systems while running existing software. Also, SSE4 should offer performance enhancements to media codecs that take advantage of the technology of greater than 40%. This is accomplished through new instructions and a new Super Shuffle Engine that improves performance for SSE2, SSE3 and SSE4 instructions that have shuffle-like operations such as pack, unpack and wider packed shifts. In servers Intel states >45% performance improvements are possible in situations that are bandwidth and floating point intensive. Penryn will appear in server space first, followed by the desktop and mobile spaces.

The next half of the year will be exciting times on the hardware front. New quad core chips from AMD and Intel with new high powered GPUs.

AND the best thing of all is that UT3 will hopefully also come out this year (and Crysis) /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

...I know you can't argue with benchmarks when it comes to comparing processors, so I won't bother trying. However, I've used both AMD and Intel processors to run high end graphics programs and thought the AMD was a little more responsive, plus it ran a lot cooler. Just my two cents worth...

Intel rolls out Centrino Pro

California-based Intel Corp., has this week chosen to shine its technological spotlight on two significant unveilings, the first of which sees the introduction of a brand new high-performance laptop processor, which the leading chipmaker refers to as Intel Centrino Pro processor technology.
The new Centrino Pro processor will essentially consist of a mix of Intel™s vPro technology, which is a set of popular features designed specifically for desktop business PCs, and the chipmaker™s hugely successful mobile Centrino brand “ thus combining to bring Centrino Pro technology to expectant laptop owners.

From a business efficiency perspective, IT (Information Technology) departments utilising the benefits of Centrino Pro technology will be in a position to œreliably manage both desktop and notebooks and deal with what plagues them most “ security threats, cost of ownership, resource allocation, and asset management “ and do so wirelessly, claims Intel in yesterday™s official release, which also boasts that Centrino Pro technology will result in enhanced protection and IT compliance for PCs as well as more accurate inventories, and reductions in desk-side visits and business interruptions.

œThis is an ideal time for this product as we continue to see notebook penetration rates increasing in business, commented Mooly Eden, VP of Intel™s Mobile Products Group, concerning the announcement. œIntel Centrino Pro processor technology brings the best of our offering with Intel vPro processor technology and adds it right into our highly successful Intel Centrino brand for laptops.

With Intel outlining that existing desktop vPro technology is already being implemented by more than 200 of its business customers, including the likes of 3M, BMW, FujiFilm, ING, John Hopkins, Pioneer, and Verizon, it would seem only natural for Centrino Pro technology™s integration to follow when it becomes ready for deployment during the second quarter.

Furthermore, industry corporate software support is also well positioned for the arrival of Centrino Pro processor technology and Intel has bolstered interest with software application and solutions already on offer from the likes of Altiris, CA Inc., Cisco Systems, Credant Technologies, Hitachi, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft Corp., LANDesk, and Trend Micro.

œIntel has been one of the best in terms of understanding and internalizing manageability and building manageability into their platforms with Intel vPro processor technology, and now Intel Centrino Pro mobile processor technology extends this management capability to mobile PCs, said Kirill Tatarinov, corporate vice president of the Microsoft Windows Enterprise Management Division regarding Microsoft™s approach. œWith new Intel Centrino Pro processor technology support in SMS 2003 and System Center 2007 products, this combination will help enterprises realize the promise of dynamically managing their infrastructure.

Intel Centrino Pro processor technology is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2007 as part of the chipmaker™s planned introduction of its next-gen Centrino processor, which is currently codenamed ˜Santa Rosa™.

I prefer AMD -- my K7- raided were ROCKing but the OCTO is looking fine

Isnt AMD vs Intel -- like Mustang vs Camaro vs Vette -- like eating her out vs not -- IE vs Firefox

It preferences (likes, dislikes and pleasure) -- our notebooks have Intel currently but my homemade desktops and servers are still AMD

I went the safe route and own stock in both companies -- so the back and forth is way too cool--just like MS , Intel and AMD I hate monoploies but -- whatcha gonna do??
