My son has purchased, at great expense (at least for him), a classic Disney DVD from E-bay. Unfortunately it is from Australia, which I believe is Region-4. Do you know of any easy way to get it to play? We are going to need to replace our current DVD player, so I would consider buying a not too expensive one that could play Region-4 disks, but I have a sneaking suspicion that those might be hard to find. BTW, he tried it on our various computers and it doesn't appear to work there either.

So I figured I would ask the experts!

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

You are correct - Australia is region 4.

Some standalone dvd players have special codes you can input via the remote control to unlock any region playing. Google the model number of your dvd player...

For a PC with a DVD drive check these software links - they allow you to play any region disks in your PC dvd drive:

http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

and/or

http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm

Just install them (one will do, I have used dvd-region free myself) and then insert your dvd. BTW you will need a software dvd player like PowerDVD or the free VLC player.

Some of these programs may be available in the software section of the forum here...

if you wanna watch the material on your tv rather than pc, use the above software to unlock and then rip to your hard drive using dvd decrypter and then use dvd shrink to compress and burn onto a dvd to play in standalone player
