This was a bug known pre-release, and post release..
Vista isn't completely compatible with many wifi routers; this is actually something to do with the spec implementation, but I don't remember the exact details, and really can't be bothered to find the original article..

Also (and possibly relevant) is the re-written TCP/IP stack in Vista which has been causing quite a few issues in itself..

Either check for a firmware update for your router, or stay tuned in many months for a non-critical patch from Microsoft..

Well, up until now, I haven't had an issue...

But, I think e is right, I downloaded some DRM videos and I do believe that's when the issues started...I remembered e mentioning that before, about it being an issue, and I previously didn't fuck with anything DRM, and wasn't worried about it...

But these Lisa Ann videos, I just can't bring myself to delete them..!

Here's what I'm going to do...Install VMWare, unDRM the videos in a copy of XP....Go back to using Vista...

Unless you guys know of another fix..?

QUOTE(œbermensch @ May 2 2007, 07:53 PM) PC looses connection through the browser, but instant message and other clients operate normally...Problem appears on a whim, and affects ALL internet browsers, even those that are not in use...For example, midway through, Firefox will stop working, and then when you open IE, it fails to work as well...

Diagnosis..?

Are you using a firewall? Can you ping websites (ie google.com) in a command prompt? Downloaded anything bad lately? Have you rebooted?

I had something similar. I could browse the web, pretty much do anything on the web, but couldn't connect to a single computer on my network. I have other file servers and couldn't connect to any through their network path (ie \\servername\sharename). I couldn't even ping their DNS name either.

I have dual gigabit NICs on my A8N32-SLI motherboard, one a nVIDIA and the other a Marvell. Neither worked so I knew it wasn't a hardware issue or the TCP/IP stack. I even ended up running some sort of command through the command prompt to reinstall TCP/IP.

I ended up reformatting and it worked fine again. Pain in the ass to do but I don't have time for small shit to not work properly.
If any links are down, please send me a PM!

No, I'm not using any firewall other than the default in Windows...I'm pretty sure that its related to that DRM shit that emanon mentioned...

I'm running XP in my VM, I'm going to see if it happens again...But it doesn't matter if its wireless or hardwire, it just goes dead...Reboot...Works again...

you would be better off just running XP with one of the many available Vista Transformation packs to get GUI all pretty than continuing to use Vista itself.

I would rather reformat, reinstall Vista, and run XP in VMWare than to downgrade...

Vista > XP for me...
