There always seems to be one or more moments in most of our lives that have an ongoing impact on just about everything that follows.....and that can be anywhere between something as simple as a particular book that you've read right up to some monumental event that's out of anyones control.

I have two....but at the moment I'm only prepared to share one of them....And that was when I learnt that I had actually been picked up while hitchhiking in the early 80's, by one of Australia's most notorious (and now convicted) serial killers, who preyed on backpackers around the Belangalo State Forest area...it was only by chance that my girlfriend and I chose at the last minute to ditch our lift with him, while we were at a petrol station and there were plenty of people about and instead, stay the night in one of the local hotels. rather than travel on into the night with him. Every time I see any news about him and the things he did, I start to feel sick. But I also wonder why it was that we both decided at the very last moment, and for no particular reason, that we suddenly changed our plans when we understood that he was going to exactly the same destination as us.
Now, as hypocritical as I may be.......I refuse to let my son hitchhike anywhere.

Anyone else got some experiences to share?................

Dude...

Compared to getting fucking picked up by the Wolf Creek killer..? LOL...No..! Damn, that just blew me away Bro, seriously...Whatever I was going to say seems to pale in comparison...

Wow, let me think...

Actually, along those same lines...I remember a story when I was younger...My grandfather's company would throw huge picnics, and we'd all go down, eat, and play with the other kids...There was a wooded area, and while we were off playing commandos and what not, I kinda got away from the group...I came across 2 men who I didn't recognize, standing in the woods...They looked menacing...I asked them had they seen which may my friends went, and they said, 'Yeah, right through here...' They motioned that I would have to run between them, and that just didn't seem right to me...

I turned tail and ran fast as shit back to the general area and never returned to the trees...Now, I'm not sure what those guys had in mind, if anything, but I'm glad I didn't stick around to find out...

I was little, about 2 or 3 and my life of course was perfect. I was at my Uncle's shop where we were having a family cook out. For whatever reason my Uncle and my Pepaw who I loved more than life itself got into a fight. I ran outside and seen my uncle holding a reefer bar about to swing it and hit my Pepaw, my mother got in the middle of them and my Daddy knocked her back to get her out of the way and my Dad got hit by the bar. I ran out to my Daddy and screamed. I was thrown back by someone and I hid behind the shop door and screamed and cried. My Pepaw yelled, "GET BABYGIRL NOW!!" A woman I had never seen before came and grabbed me and ran back into the shop with me.

That is one of my first memories. I still have nightmares about it as dumb as it may seem.

Wow schmicko that just goes to proove how small decisions that you may have never thought hold any importance could hold the greastest importance. Experiences make us appreciate what we have. Even though experiences like that suck but they show us what is important. Every time you think about it, it shows you just how important your life really is and how important everything else is.

@ g00b

That is a pretty traumatic experience. Something that is likely that you will never forget and I'm sorry. There are certain things from my childhood that I would rather forget butI cant like when my father hit me in the chest as hard as he could when i wasnt more then 10 and I couldnt breathe. I went to the ground struggling. Standing up and falling over again and again untill i could breathe again. and a lot more things that id want to remember but I cant.

As for my life changing events. There was another thread that was created by another resisdent hotty that no longer comes by ; CY.

I haven't had any traumatic life changing events in my life (other than my divorces). However, I have had 2 major life changing events that forever altered who I am and who I will always be known as. I am also fortunate that both of them have chosen to grace this place with their presence. I have to say that witnessing the birth of each of them was a highlight of my entire life. I remember every minute.

I have to agree with DD

I grew up in a good close knit family, was spoiled rotten (along with my brothers and sister), have been around the world, have made a ton of money (and subsequently blown it all in a moment - not literally), I've been blessed with many friends (that'd I or they would give thier live(s) for OR did), have seen the squalors and atrocities of war ravaged countries and the good that can come of us kicking the snot out of oppressors, terrorists and their ilk, been at deaths door a couple times (drunk drivers and Panamanian drug dealers/ govt officials with better firepower can do that to you)

But seeing a living, breathing, infant brought into this world; dependant on me and their mother(s) for every thing needed (be it for sustanence and growth) is as life changing as it gets for me.

I've been lucky enough to have this a repeated event (my 5 kids) that never gets any less exciting, life altering, mindblowing.

I have the power to grow or destroy in any number of ways this living infant, to affect not only thier life(s) and outcome(s) but of others depending on how I nuture, feed, teach, love them.

To me that if life changing at the most

The killer in the Wolf Creek Movie was based on a couple of different psychos, including the one that we rubbed shoulders with....Ivan Milat!
