I really enjoyed Saw I, and even the sequels to a lesser extent; however Hostel I & II seem totally unappealing, despite both franchises being overtly similar, content-wise. Is Hostel worth a chance? Is it even reasonable to compare these movies?

Personally, I can tell you that Hostel lacks the scary atmosphere.
It's very disgusting, that I can tell you, butt(SHAKIRAAAAA!!!!!!) it lacks the heavy thriller atmosphere.
One "pro" that Hostel (I've only seen the 1st one) has is what a friend of mine said:

"Dude, this movie is amazing! You look at a chick, you go "WOW I have to see her naked!" then 10 minutes later, she's all naked !"

Good... Bad... I'm the guy with the gun...

One of the girls that was in Hostel, the hot brunette, is a cool chick...

But as for comparing the two films, they're really not in the same category...A closet dweller that used to post here was upset because there were naked girls in it...I should have known he was a fucking fag when he said that shit...

Hostel is kinda like a horror film, minus the cheesy horror film atmosphere...You're kinda just watching it, enjoying the view, and then, when you finally figure out what's going on, you're like....What...the...fuck..!

I own a copy of Hostel on UMD, it was worth the investment, so definitely I think its worth a rent...

Saw part 1 was just a thriller with no equal, but if you liked that, I don't see why you wouldn't like Hostel unless you're....Well...You know... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I never really had any interest in any of the new genre of "torture films".
But then I've never seen any either. Maybe I'll give Saw I or Hostel a try.

I enjoyed the psychological thriller aspect of Saw, which I found lacking in the sequels. I will give hostel a shot though. Saw IV may be a prequel, which seems like a letdown, but otherwise it'll be tough to bring back Jigsaw

I agree with BlindG, Hostel isn't scary but it is extremely brutal, i mean i couldn't even watch the part with the achilles tendon. Yea i know, im a wuss lol XD.

Is it true that Hostel is based on on real events? Cos THAT would be fucking scary!

No, I think it was merely the brainchild of Tarantino, which, depending on how you look at it, is even scarier, lol...

OK I saw saw (or is that seen saw? /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) last night.

I was expecting much more of a gore fest. I'm glad I was wrong. That was a pretty good movie.
