Post by geekboynj »

I just finished reading this. Does anybody want to discuss what they liked or didn't like?

Spoiler:
I liked the way she cleared things up with Snape. I also like the way Nevel became a strong leader when Harry was not at Hogwarts. A lot of the book was just bumbling around without leading to any really powerful discoveries or any important developments. I was hoping that Lucius Malfoy would be killed by Voldemort and Draco would defend Harry because of it. But, I like the way she dealt with the Malfoy family. I also liked that Bellatrix was defeated by the mom defending her kids! Don't mess with an angry mom!

All in all it was good, a little slow in the middle but not boring at any point.
You should add "Spoilers Inside" to your title.

Good point. I kind of figured that anybody who hadn't read it yet would know enough not to enter a forum talking about it, now that the books is actually "out there" ... but I guess it never hurts to be safe. :)

Spoiler:
I agree about Snape. I was one of the few people I knew who was still willing to trust that Dumbledore had a good reason to trust him, even after the shocking end of Book 6. So I'm glad I ended up being right about that. It was much more clever than just having Snape be a bad guy.

So we got a few big deaths, but no BIG BIG deaths. Snape, Fred, Dobby, Hedwig, Lupin, Tonks, and some 50 others whose names we never hear. And Voldemort, of course. But I guess we all kind of saw that one coming. :)

I also thought it was clever how JK decided to wrap things up with that epilogue. It will effectively keep everybody from begging for her to write the continuing adventures of Harry Potter -- because who wants to read about a middle-aged Harry Potter with 3 kids, right? And yet, it does open up possibilities down the line for her (or somebody) to revisit the universe she's created by writing stories about the various Potter and Weasley kids, perhaps with Harry as the Dumbledore figure.

All in all, I really enjoyed it, and thought it was a satisfying send-off full of satisfying moments.
By the way, do we have to put spoiler tags around our comments, even if it's within a forum that warns of spoilers in the subject header? Not sure of the rules on that.

Spoiler tags can't hurt :?:
Spoiler:
Don't forget Mad-Eye Moody bit the dust as well. I think the universe is out there and people will write in it no matter what. There is the What happened in the 19 year span to the epilogue? The adventures of James Potter or Albus Severus Potter could pop up. Maybe Lily does some serious butt kicking next. There are some very good writers out there so I'm sure the stories will come out soon.
