DVD Data Recovery Tool..?

Here's the thing...

I bought some piece of shit comp usa DVD's...I burned data to them, and put the DVD's away...Now, when I put the discs in, it treats them like they're blank, but won't let me record data to them...Now, I don't know if the discs suck, or if they didn't finalize or something, but I really need to get in there and salavage some data if I can...

Anybody know of a tool that might do the trick..?

Fire up whatever software you use to burn discs and see if it can find any "sessions" on the disc. I use Nero and this is under "disc info".

If your burner software can't find any "sessions" on the disc you are a bit stuck - either it truly has nothing on it or the table of contents is stuffed.

Difficult problem this. Haven't had to deal with recovery myself in this situation.

Incidently, you must put the disc in a DVD burner to check it for usable "sessions".

Let us know what you can find out about the disc. I'll poke some people that may know how to recover a table of contents.

I burned the disc w/Nero, and can actually see that something was burned to the discs...Windows considers the disc blank, but will not format it...My guess is, like you mentioned, the table of contents is fucked...Nero says, 'No disc inserted or drive not ready'...

I can already feel the walls caving in...Fucking shitty compusa discs...

There is software for disc sector viewing. Trouble is I'm not clear on how you go about reconstructing your data off the disc.

I emailed someone who should know more on this. Just waiting for a reply.

IsoBuster is one of my favorite tools, as it is what I use to read my session burned DVD's...But even it won't read it...

Heh, here is what I found.

The CompUSA discs are known to be problematic.
Things that have been helpful to recover info off stuffed discs:

Personally I buy Verbatim DVD-Rs in bulk when a big sale is advertised. Never had a problem with their discs at home.

I was responsible for data backup once. The place had special DVD burner racks. Of course they wanted everything done as cheaply as possible so I tried heaps of different el cheapo discs. I had to laugh one day when 49 discs out of a 50 disc spindle failed to verify correctly. I stopped laughing when I realised that most 50 disc spindles failed to verify more than half the time. That included TDK discs too.

Normally, I only buy Imation or Verbatim...But for some reason, when I saw that $100 DVD's for $15 bucks, I couldn't help it...Now, I feel like shit cause I lost some of my great archives...I'll try that other tool, hopefully one will work...

Yeah, if you value your data do not stick it on a non-name brand disc. I prefer TDK myself.
