I was complaining about the heat here untill i read this. I heard about the fires but i hadnt heard about the heat wave thats been going on. The first link is an up to date story but if you look at the second link its from july 25th. They have had 3 heat waves with 100+ temps getting as high as 113 ,and fires since june... Ouch. They have so many fires now they think many are from arson and some are saying possibly politically motivated. It seems that when things start to go bad all the nuts come out and add to the pain

"Meanwhile, a strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5 struck the fire-ravaged area in the south, panicking residents, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries."

Re: Too hot in Greece
You could say it's been a hell summer....
We've had record-high temperatures mainly in June and a bit in July.
The fires, tho, beat everything.
Not only did they kill 63 people (when the authorities will go back to the burned places, I'm afraid the toll will increase dramatically).
Not only did they destroy the lives of many thousands of people.
Not only did they burn an untold amount of land.
Not only did they kill an untold amount of animals, domestic (including sheep, cattle etc) and wild.
But they also threatened very seriously monuments that have lasted thousands of years before us.
I'm sick and I'm sad and the government is mostly to blame about this destruction.
It's -the- worst in too many years... People of 60 years of age cannot recall anything worse than what has happened in the last 7 days....

Re: Too hot in Greece
The temperatures in the region near the fires fell to about 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit) on Wednesday, compared with nearly 41 degrees Celsius (106 Fahrenheit) last week.
Improved weather allowed firefighters to break most fires into smaller, more controllable blazes, said Nikos Diamandis, a fire department spokesman. All major blazes were "generally receding," he said.
