Re: Soccer
I'd like to think so...I'm actually coaching youth soccer this year...I think once we have a homegrown Superstar player things will pick up...

Re: Soccer
If you keep calling it soccer...
I dont think Football (yes a sport played with the feet and a ball, weird isnt it?) will have big fans in USA.
Besides the population with latin and european roots, i don't think the rest of the US people would catch it.
Blame it to the cultural way of enjoying sports un USA.
I dont think they are ready to see 45 + 45 minutes without pauses of a sport where the result might be 0-0.
Really think about it.
Anyway i love playing and watching Football, and as the latin community in USA is growing the profits of Football in USA would make it more popular i guess.

There is a lot of truth to that statement...Fapper wrote: Blame it to the cultural way of enjoying sports un USA.

However, once you get someone to a game, they are easily hooked. I had a friend who fit that attitude (soccer is a boring low scoring game) until I finally got him to a game in Houston... Next thing you know, he's flying to Germany to watch the world cup. He's now one of the biggest fans I know and now thinks football (american) is boring with all of it's starts and stops and runs right up the middle.... lol
I think American fans can appreciate athletic skill when they see it...and there is a LOT of skill displayed during a soccer match... It's just getting them to watch the first time that is the challenge... but that's just my opinion.
BTW - I love the sport and play on an indoor league team - great fun!

Re: Soccer
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking st4...When America gets is version of Rondaldino and we get a few more sportscenter highlights, the sport will really catch on...And then we'll dominate it... :D
I tell you what though, the media is trying...Up until Hope's blowout overtook the entire thing, the women's world cup was pretty good...When that babe from Brazil deeked the shit out of that other girl and passed the ball to herself you couldn't help but be impressed...

Soccer will continue to gain popularity because 100,000+ kids play soccer at the youth level every year. As they grow up their interest in soccer will remain.

Re: Soccer
yes yes - soccer is big among the youth... but the problem is that it is more popular among girls than it is boys... there are more soccer college scholarships available to women than to men... and yet after college, what is available? ...only mls which is for men.... or the US national team for a select few... for the women, it's a dead end.
Somethings got to change for this to make sense .....
