Video Problems with the game FEAR

#1

Post by Deepak »

I got my gf's brother a game called FEAR. There were issues to start with. The game was on a dvd and his computer didnt have a dvd reader. So I got around that by making a image of it and mounting it on a virtual drive and then installing it but he couldnt play the game that way. Then I found a no dvd crack for him so he could play.

It all works fine on my laptop but it doesnt on his pc. The game loads and everything. You can hear the music even but there is no picture. You move your mouse and hear the sound when it goes over the buttons in the game window but no video. I pluged the monitor to my laptop and the video output was fine.

So can someone suggest any solutions for that?

His video card may be ancient or not fast enough to handle moving pixels. That's the only thing I can suggest but I'm sure someone who knows more can help if that isn't the problem

1) Download and install the latest drivers for the video card. Try that. If not working then...

2) http://www.tweakguides.com/FEAR_7.html
Find Settings.cfg. Try setting

"ScreenWidth" "800"
"ScreenHeight" "600"

and give that a go.

If that displays a picture you can then experiment with different graphic settings from inside the game.

I tried that man. It didnt help. Plus it kept changing it to 640 * 480.

TT if it was the video card ..... then it wouldnt even show the cursor. What seems to happen is that the video goes far right as it seems. I cant figure out what is wrong. Any other suggestions?

PS there is no video card. He only has what came with the computer. Its an intel something for his graphics chipset.

Therein lies your problem my friend, most graphic chipsets lack the power to play a modern game...Check the recommended specs for the game, and then compare the specs of your Bro's PC and you'll probably find that it can't render it properly...

On the off hand it can, you may want to run a dxdiag, and see if you have the latest version of DirectX...But I really just think its an issue w/the graphics or the monitor refresh rate/resolution...

Wifey has an emachine that's about 3 years old with inlaid graphics and it practically play any games...
