The 2008 Presidental Primary
As some of you may or may not know, I am probably the most politically retarded person on the planet...I understand we have to have gov't, but I honestly think that if we switched to monarchy, I probably wouldn't loose a wink of sleep...
But this year, I've been paying attention to what's going on with the upcoming presidential race...1st things first, the only person I DEFINITELY would get up and go vote for is not even running...That said, I've been watching these caucuses each morning...Starting with Iowa and now in New Hampshire...And man, I gotta say, I don't understand what the fuck everyone seems to be so exicted about...I mean, I guess I should mention that I'm not a real excitable guy...I might let out a 'whoo!' or two when watching somebody get dunked on or catching a stiff arm...But...Some old ass dude that wouldn't be able to fake having a clue about an issue someone my age would have standing up going, 'And...We want to be free!' Is not going to make me stand up and cheer...
What are these people so excited about..? A politician finds out they're down in the polls because they heard the public feels they are too rigid, shows up the next day crying like a baby...We want change..? Sure, I guess...How many times can you hear, 'We need to bring our troops home,' and cheer everytime..? I gotta admit though, I think that there are no clear cut winners this year...I truly think the race will come down to Bill (via Hilary) going up against whomever comes out of the Republican party...
Truth be told, I think Barak is the dark horse...Girls seem to like him, and he's travelled enough to identify w/guys of all races...Plus, he seems to realize that young people are the key, a kicking myspace page and a finger roll..? I'm paying attention that's for sure...
But back on topic and off my soap box, who else is watching and paying attention to this shit..?

Sure you would. The democratic process is messy, and looks shabby. But totalitarianism is so easy-- the natural inclination of those in power is to use power to hold onto power, forever. Our system, with its cranky checks and balances, works pretty well. You hate the idea of President Hilary Clinton? Then remember, there's a Justice John Roberts and Antonin Scalia to rein her in.Übermensch wrote:As some of you may or may not know, I am probably the most politically retarded person on the planet...I understand we have to have gov't, but I honestly think that if we switched to monarchy, I probably wouldn't loose a wink of sleep...
Of all the good ideas that Americans have had, the ingrained suspicion of political power is the most durably correct. When George Washington left after his second term, he gave us something that most countries don't have . . . and its worth putting up with the shabbiness for the benefits.
I am. Enjoying the Republican primaries more than the Dems. Between Hilary and Obama, there really aren't many policy differences. But between McCain and Huckabee and Romney and Giuliani, there really are.Übermensch wrote: But back on topic and off my soap box, who else is watching and paying attention to this shit..?

It's not that I don't think the system works, I just think so much of it goes over our heads...Local and state governments are more likely to impact our lives on a grand scale more so than federal laws do...I just don't understand the excitement of the political process...It seems rehearsed, and as fake as my British accent...I'd even go so far as to argue that we haven't seen change as a society, especially where gov't is concerned, since the Civil Rights movement...
THE PEOPLE WANT CHANGE..!!
That's what they say, but change doesn't come free or easy...Until I start to see some shit working on the federal level that really makes a difference to guys like me where it counts (fiscally) I couldn't care less about who was in office...Which one of these candidates is going to make sure gas goes back down to $1.25 a gallon..? What about put some pressure on these electric companies to make sure I don't get another fucked up $250 light bill..? How about some pressure on companies that outsource customer support so that I'm not on the phone for 3 hours talking to some dude in India about my student loans...I mean, that's change to me...But, whatever works...If someone tinkers with some shit up there and it stops the gas from moving to $4.25 a gallon, or my light bill going up to $350, I'll take that too...

Re: The 2008 Presidental Primary
the only thing that worries me is something a friend brought up the other night. he thinks there is a huge likelihood that if Obama hypothetically wins,he'll be assassinated just like MLK,Kennedy,or Malcolm not long after due to the fact that a lot of the Olde Guard are scared of him or just plain don't like him. then they'll find a way to pin it on "terrorists" . what are your thoughts on this?!?

Chris Rock said it as a joke, but to be honest, it really may make the most sense...
He says that the only way a black president gets elected into office, and ISN'T assassinated, is if he has a Mexican running mate...

Looks like Mitt Romney is supporting McCain which seals up who the Republican nominee is. Does anyone thinks he has a chance against either Clinton or Obama?
"If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if at the bottom of everything there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?"

As weird as it sounds..? It seems like the majority of Americans still want to keep this war going...And that's the song McCain seems to be singing...I think the only way for either BO or Clinton to win, is to do so on the same ticket...I think BO is better suited for president...Hilary being in office just scares me for some reason...I think that they'd make a formidable alliance, though I'm not sure Hilary would be willing to take another back seat to Barak and vice versa...

Re: The 2008 Presidental Primary
The majority of active military funded Ron Paul's campaign to get out of the world police actions. He got more funding and more supporters than any of the "big three". He got blocked by the media, and I swear it is the GOP neocons who paid for that to happen. What war? I think anyone who thinks this is a war is ignorant of miltary matters. This stopped being a war a LONG time ago. The majority of the people I hear want this to be a war or be over...Übermensch wrote:As weird as it sounds..? As for Clinton, as long as someone out there don't have some REAL dirty laundry, Obama beat her. She has less than a 13% chance of taking the demoncratic golden ticket.
Here is the REAL clincher though, her supporters WILL easily support Obama, who stands as the most conservative candidate out of the big three. And as long as a Clinton is not in line for the office, alot of GOP mainstayers are so out of synch with McCain that they will sit the election out. Obama has more than a 60% chance of being the next president at this time.
