I would have to say Spawn. I watched it again a few years ago and it wasn't as good as when I saw it as a kid...

Nice touch w/the images Jig, helps to jog the memory...

Spawn, even though Michael J. White is my dude, was horrible IMO...Spawn was probably the first comic I collected, and in fact have all the early issues...Somewhere along the line I stopped reading, but I always dug Spawn as a character...That movie may just not have been good enough for my expectations...

Now lets see, on to the question...

Any movie I consider a favorite means that I watch it over and over again if its on...And no movie I can think even comes close..! I mean, I thought all the movies Jig named were good...Hard to say which one I liked best, especially when you have to consider movies like Superman II, which were made decades ago...Same movies, same story, 2000 technology means those movies might be ultra amazing...

Shit man, I'll have to think on this one some more, I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting...

you do that Ube. this shouldn't be a rush job. yeah i thought adding in the images of my faves would also help y'all with the trip down memory lane. i can picture a bunch of you guys looking at your DVD & vid collections. lol. damn i had to boot X2 out of my 10 as i totally forgot a flick i've watched over & over again: The original accept-no-subs Crow movie featuring the late great Brandon Lee. in regards to Superman II & Hellboy, notice i put in the Donner Cut & Director's cut respectively? the original Hellboy would probably still make my 10 but not the theatrical campy version of Supes II. i'd add in Superman IV first before that made my 10.

Y'know, your post reminds me that I still haven't seen V for Vendetta, Jig - and I even have it on DVD somewhere. So I may have to amend my list after watching it.

But as it stands now, my top ten:

1. Sin City - About as faithful a comic adaptation as there will ever be. Almost panel for panel, word for word. Sex and violence done in innovative cinematography, what more can you ask for?

2. Batman Begins - A movie that managed to resurrect a film franchise killed off by Joel Schumacher and made Batman almost seem like a realistic character. One of the best characteristics of this movie, in my opinion, is the fact that Nolan and Co. made every attempt to ground the story and characters in reality, removing every bit of camp from the 60s TV show and the previous film series (even Burton's installments).

3. Road to Perdition - Yep, this movie's from a graphic novel of the same name. I think it's really under-rated; when I first saw it, I firmly believed it would be nominated for Best Picture. Tom Hanks and Paul Newman are fantastic in it. And the father-and-son motif keeps you invested throughout.

4. Spider-Man 2 - One of the few sequels to top the original. The runaway train sequence still blows me away.

5. The Crow - One of the only times I can think of where the movie surpasses the source material. Need I say more?

6. Superman - To me, no one will ever surpass Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel. Loved Routh in Returns, but it just can't be done.

7. Spider-Man - One of the best portrayals of a character's origin in a comic book movie. That alone makes this movie worth watching. Still hate the Goblin suit though.

8. X-Men 2 - Another sequel better than the original. Great cast for the most part (Halle Berry as Storm never did cut it) and great action throughout.

9. Superman Returns - Well done reboot to the franchise. Routh channels Reeve well and even adds his own take to Kal-El. Just needed more action. And I'm still not sure I'm on board with the big twist in this movie.

10. Hell Boy - I'd never read the comic book before watching the movie, and suddenly I was interested in reading every bit I could afterwards. I'm a sucker for the father-son thing, as it pops up here too, well that and budding romance, revenge, explosions, etc.

Notable mentions: A History of Violence, 300, Batman, Batman Returns, X-Men, Superman II.

Note: I completely forgot about The Crow til you mentioned it Jig; thanks for the mention. :p

Watch It!
Superman - To me, no one will ever surpass Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel. Loved Routh in Returns, but it just can't be done.
agreed.
Spider-Man - One of the best portrayals of a character's origin in a comic book movie. That alone makes this movie worth watching. Still hate the Goblin suit though.
my exact thoughts on it.
A History of Violence - From the graphic novel of the same name, Viggo Mortenson gives a great performance, making you constantly wonder who he really is. Well, it turns out he's a complete badass.
i simply must see this now!

edit: & uh,if anyone is wondering why i have Batman Forever there in the notable mentions..it's cos of Val Kilmer's solid performance & the production value. the Gotham cityscape looks like a comic come to life & Kilmer i think is on par with Bale as being able to pull off both Bats & Bruce.

Yeah Kilmer deserved better. Damn Schumacher and his homoerotic fantasies. Clooney sucked though. And I too hated the Goblin's look (cough Abomination cough).

But my favs:

Batman Begins: Great story great characters and actors and great action.

Spider-man: Fantastic suit, pretty close to the comic in all aspects but didn't like Toby or Kirsten in their roles or again the Goblin suit but Dafoe was great.

Superman: Reeves was Superman come alive and a great story (even if Supes didn't get to punch anyone)

X-Men/X-Men II: Both movies seemed the same to me, not much of a different story. Was never a X-Men fan growing up (thought they bitched too much) but liked how it came out in the movie especially Kelly Hu (va va va voom). Truth be told I liked X3 (don't kill me fellas) too. But hated Magneto throughout the series...too fem.

Batman Returns: Much different than the current Batman series but I think I liked the darkness of it all and Pfieffer as Catwoman was pretty decent.

Movies like 300, Sin City, V for Vendetta were excellent too but I never read the comics so I can't say if they're better or worse.

Ya know come to think of it...my favorite villains were all raped by Hollywood in some way. Doom I already got into on another thread as being an Electro/Colossus rip off. The Green Goblin was portrayed well but the suit sucked. Magneto was played by a little OLD gay man, no offense to gay people but Mags wasn't gay or little or quite that old (shoulda cast someone like Rutger Hower). And now the Abomination in the new Hulk movie. Have to reserve some judgment, but I do hate the look of him so far.

i'm having a Spider-Man fest tonight & just got done watching the first one. it still holds up well, though i dig the Goblin's body armor update, i still cannot acceot that poxy helmet!..especially when the guy wearing it has the facial shape to pull off the latex mask with the fangs.

now that i've read Ultimate Spidey, i see the film series is very much based off that continuity with both the Goblin & Webhead's origins kinda linked. & also Parker being a lot more whiney. if only they'd made MJ a brainbox like in the book.

question 4 you guys: do you think at some point they will ever restore the helicopter snared between the Trade Center buildings in that giant web that the teaser had back into the main film?!? i never understood why they ditched it in the first place as it shows the WTC being used for something heroic..

No, I don't think that teaser will ever be officially added back, at least not in our life times. There will be vocal people out there who still find it disrespectful. Maybe generations down the line in a 50th Anniversary rerelease?
