Let's make some comics. Does this belong in The Word?

Saw a GREAT suggestion for The Green Lantern: the first comic I ever read with regularity. One of the best ideas because it was (in the original) only the strongest will could even control the ring, and then it could only be as powerful as their imagination, and it would only work for those with outpouring compassion..., but could it be implemented? I would be scared it would be horrible. Regardless, he needs to be on this list.

I would personally like it if someone has an idea for how this movie would go. I have a working idea, and would love to trade thoughts on this!

BTW:

In the Marvel Role Playing Game, I ran several campaigns (quite a few in several other RPG's as well, actually). I had a person who was a Green Lantern in the Marvel Universe, and made him a black Chinese Mythologist who was seeking elements and relics of history before the Han Dynasty, when Chinese history was redacted.

He (Michael Tyrel Benton) found reference to the lantern in a opium lord's legends while researching lore. He then confirmed his suspicion, there was more to it than the ramblings of minds clouded with the smoke of burning poppy resin. Then he actually learned the lamp was in the archives of the Xiamen Museum in Amoy. When he requested to study there, he was denied, and a local contact informed him they were moving in odd ways and some talk of sending certain artifacts to Latveria was being discussed.

In short, Dr. Doom was wise to the ring as was trying to get it to create the "Jade Lioness" a female Latverian national hero to establish a stronger national identity.

Michael was a martial arts enthusiast (shaw brothers FTW!), had went to university on a track scholarship, and had grown up in Japan, Philippines, Hawaii, and Okinawa where his father had been stationed. He had been considering joining the military until he was informed his vision was too poor to be a pilot.

Anyways, he was a Non-Player Character that hired the party comosed of my friends, whom he were hired for extra muscle by Heroes For Hire staple Iron Fist. They were to go get the lantern and a special ring.

The ring in my game was a full pinky ring, like the finger of a guantlet. The Left pinky was the finger with the meridians connected to will and imagination. so it made sense. The story said an old Opium Lord had a set of armor what he would wear in special Operas he would perform for esteemed guests by the light of a jade lamp, and they would "see" the story he was acting out as though it were real and they were imaginary. But alas, the Opium Lord performed for one persons too many and they killed him in his repose, and he faded from existence with the killing blow. However, his attendant lover had been there, and as his assassin had killed him, he cut off the Opium Lord's finger. She had taken it, and ran for her life... with all that had remained of her lover.

He finally tracked down the ring, and as he studied it, he realized it was more than a ring. When he got it, the rings manifestations were all locked into his passion and the rings history of Chinese Mythology curved blades, wu shu animals, taoist sorcery, buddhist imagery, and elemental strikes... but as he activated the powers of the ring, he would find it harder and harder to "come back to reality" and started suffering hallucinations and would find it harder and harder to live without the effects of the ring. Eventually, for the sake of not taking all the challenge from my friends who were supposed to be the stars of the game, I depowered him, and let them fight the Jade Lioness... I always wondered; is this a good idea for a comic?

I got the idea from the notion that "wood" was something the first GL could not effect, and the traditional color for Wood in the Five Elements is Green. So, I got that element of Wood/Wind mutability from too many Kung Fu movies, and added some Indiana Jones and stuff.

From there, Michael formed A.B.L.E. Advanced Being Law Enforcement, a govt. contracted force that was designed to enforce Laws and Statutes on super heroes.

How do you know what is a good idea for a comic? I see elements of this in Civil War, and think - DAMN! I was doing some of that back in the late 1980's. In fact, I killed Captain America. But in my game, it was a willing sacrifice he made to prevent the assassination of Nick Fury who was president. I did it to put a whole "Who can bear the torch this man held?" spin on it, and reconciled my own patriotism. From there, the Super Soldier program was handed to Stark Enterprises.

Oh, I am almost ready to start making comics again thinking about this. Anyone out there maybe up for some collaboration? Something that is not DC and not Marvel, but still has some elements of classic comics. We can make some stuff to put up here. I suck at drawing, but can sketch ideas and ink some pencil. If anyone is interested, let me know!

Vertical Man,
Ch

Great story Raum. Don't have the chops for writing or drawing but I think you should somehow get in touch with Marvel and maybe at a comic con and talk about your idea. They're pretty receptive there I heard. I remember reading a story years ago about a fan talking to John Byrne I believe about a comic of Galactus vs Darkseid. Obviously took alot of work getting Marvel and DC together but they did it. Try it man it's really well thought out!

Uber! Start with Green Lantern: Rebirth and then move onto the Sinestro Corps War. They're both in the Comics section. They're great jumping points for GL noobs. Go now! You won't regret it. :)

No, you don't have to know Green Lantern to come in here. I am saying we got enough traffic about comics to try and at least put some character sketches together... maybe throw a few pencils on paper and see if we can storyboard something.

For the record, I would not be looking to just use existing characters licensed by any one else... but if someone else wanted to, feel free.
