Update: Australia is Losing Justice League Mortal
Source: The Sydney Morning Herald
March 19, 2008
UPDATE: Variety has also published an article on the situation.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Australia is about to lose the George Miller-directed Justice League Mortal after it was refused the Federal Government's new film production rebate.
The Oscar-winning director of Happy Feet and the "Mad Max" films said that the $200 million movie had a 90 per cent chance of being shot overseas after being knocked back by the board of the Film Finance Corporation.
"A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Australian film industry is being frittered away because of very lazy thinking," Miller said. "If that's going to be the final decision, they're throwing away hundreds of millions of dollars of investment that the rest of the world is competing for and, much more significantly, highly skilled creative jobs."
The director of the equity section of the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, Simon Whipp, has lobbied against Justice League Mortal's eligibility, describing it as an American story that will be performed in American accents.
Miller said he had "utter creative control" over the film and plans to appeal against the decision. "It feels to me like I'm not fighting for this film. I'm fighting for the Australian film industry."
just fucking scrap it outright already i say.

Re: Justice League
very smart move. read on..
Jason Reitman Turns Down Justice League
Juno director Jason Reitman was also on the Howard Stern Show today and revealed that he turned down an offer to direct Justice League of America for Warner Bros. Howard’s first question was “How’s the script?”
“Good, FINE… You know, I mean. I had to sign something, they send me the script and it comes on this spy paper which cant be xeroxed,” revealed Jason Reitman. “They have a time when I have to have the script back to them and the script is fine and I could be spending…” Jason later continued: “What am I going to do with Justice League of America? So Basically I’ll make a movie that is not as good as X-Men, then I’ll be the guy who made a movie not as good as X-Men. Where just like you talking about, going to smaller stations, if I make another small movie, and it’s really good, it performs well…” “Right now I’m thought of as a particular type of director. I’ve got an oscar nomination. I’ve made two indie films that play film festivals that are considered thoughtful. I want to stay in that world, I like making those type of films.”

Re: Justice League
Justice League On Hold Again
It’s a film that’s been so “on again - off again” that it’s starting to resemble my love life. Ok, that’s more like “off again” more than anything else. But still…
Justice League (the Superhero group based on all the big DC comics characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Geen Lantern, Flash… ect ect ect) is a film that looks like it could possibly be the most disasterous comic book film of all time. However, just before the strike it got put on hold and the internet movie community rejoiced like the Ewoks after the destruction of the second Death Star. Sadly though, after the WGA strike was over, word came out that the movie was back on track and moving forward once more. All the people wept.
Now comes word that the mess in waiting is on hold yet again. Hooray! Mega producer Joel Silver commented that the Justice League movie was “Tabled” when asked how the project might effect the Wonder Woman movie he’s currently working on.
So break out the champaign and the Ewok drums… Justice League is delayed again… we can only hope this time it will turn into a more permanent situation! (Source: http://chud.com/articles/articles/14429 ... Page1.html)

Re: Justice League
Routh Badmouths Justice League
In the continued epic of the on again off again Justice League movie we all sit anxiously waiting for them to drop the ax once and for all. Now the next gen Supes himself has chimed in on the topic.
/Film offers from the mouth of Routh:
“I think we’ve been doing a great job representing Superman and Batman and there is definitely a time and place for the Justice League movie. I kinda think that now isn’t that time.”
We have been saying this all along. Routh must be reading this site. But we are not the only ones saying this. In fact, I have yet to find ANYONE who thinks their current (and repeatedly failing) Justice League idea is going to work. If they want to make them into Teen Titans, why not do a Teen Titans movie?
The Justice League movie is not a BAD idea and it pretty much gives you the permission to print money, but the way they are hoping to do this failed Justice League film while other chapters of the DC Universe are putting forward such a fine example is just silly.
Wait for each member to have its own standalone film, sweet talk its stars into taking an epic Oceans 11 scale paycut to form an ensemble cast and give the fans what they want.
A Real Justice League film.
Routh also mentions in passing that he expects Man of Steel to begin on set early next year.

Re: Justice League
Yeah I was never jazzed about the idea of this with out Routh and Bale but figured it may be ok. NOw with 50 set backs it really needs to be scrapped and done over after they have a separate Wonder Woman, Green Lantern etc movies. Like what Marvel is rumored to be setting up.

Re: Justice League
Hate to say it, but right now Marvel is ahead 1-0...With Hulk it will be 2-0...Dark Knight can deliver substantially, but with no other DC projects in the mix that I know of, this looks bad for them...
A Justice league with Bale, Routh/Welling, an established Wonder Woman and Green Lantern..? Rock on...But even if the movie succeeds, it will fail in many other ways...Please, please, please scrap this shit...
Of course, I wouldn't mind seeing a small screen version of JL w/the current characters from Smallville...
