Captain America: The Fill-in until Avengers

Since Marvel Studios are greasing the wheels to get this rolling, i figure it deserves it's own thread..
[center]Captain America Film Will Be a Period Piece Plus McConaughey is Not Involved!

IESB's Robert Sanchez spoke with Marvel big wig Kevin Feige today about the new Avengers film they have planned starring Captain America!

After the huge success of IRON MAN, Marvel announced a few films on their horizon including The First Avenger: Captain America set to debut in 2011.

Feige gave us a few updates about the film!

IESB asked Feige if the Captain America film would be a period piece. He confirmed yes, the story will take place during World War II, just like the comic book origin story. He says they plan to remain very faithful to the source material and completely traditional.

Feige also confirmed that it was definitely the Captain America shield that was seen in IRON MAN on Tony Stark's work-station as he's removing his suit for the first time. It's just an Easter Egg and probably won't have anything to do with the Capt. America story.

What about that casting rumor making its way around the web that Matthew McConaughey would be taking on the role? Nope, Feige says that's absolutely false.

Thanks to Kevin Feige for the intel!

Well good McConaughey isn't involved but Cap's shield being in TS's lab makes no sense..ah well I'll try not to lose any sleep.

I don't think that was the shield in the lab, but if it was, that might mean that the material the shield is made of comes from the same source material as cap's shield...Always a way to tie some things in there, but from the little bit I saw of what was supposed to be the shield, it didn't stack up...

Glad to see this one in the mix, should make for a really good story...

caps shield was Vibranium. Stark's daddy grew the business in WWII. Stark Sr. outfitted the Super Soldier before, and the majority of the Golden Era of Super Heroes. All that data and equipment would have been available for research. I just figure Tony requisitioned the shield for private research.

Where the gap is that Iron Man was created out of current conflict, not Vietnam. Therefore, the gap between Afghanistan and WWII is really a bit bigger than the gap between father and son which originally existed. It is the price for making Stark's story current, and making Cap's perdiodic. I think the justified implication of that "Easter Egg" was Tony Stark was analyzing the shield to determine the properties of the Vibranium and the aerodynamics, as research for the Iron Man suit to be built once returning back to America.

The only way to really reconcile it is if Stark's grandfather is the person who ran the company in WWII, which is easy enough to do, and is excusable.

I would guess Baron Zemo would also be in this one, if Steve Rodgers ends up presumed dead.

They say this is going to be true to form.
If so, it will be hard to not make this rediculous without some serious revamping.

Baron Zemo is making a super adhesive to "use" on the allied forces and Captain America, avenger of the free world, is sent up to stop the secret glue project, and bumps Baron Nemo into a vat that permantantly glues his hooded mask to his head....

And is Cap going to have a sidearm? Bucky is going to be hard to pull off as well.

enemy Falling in a vat leaves him disfigured, secret identity concealed by half mask, chest logo, most powerful weapon is a thrown weapon, blocking bullets and sidekick:

Joker/Zemo, Bruce Wayne, Star/Bat, Batarang/Shield, guantlets/shield, bucky/robin.

just saying... and the new TwoFace is rocking HALF a red skull...

Hope Cap gets his due respect.

Hope so, too. I don't think they need to follow the comics too closely; we could end up with Shia LaBeouf as Bucky. I hope it's not geared too much toward the kiddies with Cap knocking out and tying up all the Nazis. I have it on good authority that WWII was really violent and Nazis were really bad people.

please god no! hopefully his asking price will be too much. i can see the little shit playing Bucky, but i see it as a bad move in terms of Cap sequels. I cannot see the fucker playing the Winter Soldier. i have the strangest feeling they might do that story arc in a sequel as it would make for great cinematic drama which ultimately culminates in the death of Steve Rogers & Bucky's second change of identity as the new hardcore Captain America.
