Re: The Incredible Hulk (2008 Film)
I *despised* Emil Blonksy's portrayal... only because he wasn't a Russian double agent who was accidentally blasted with gamma rays. Of course, again, the bad guys have to be blonde with blue eyes or everyone is offended. BAH~!!!
I *despised* the idea that Hulk was a program connected in anyway to weaponizing a super soldier. I protest the idea Hulk is a supersolider project gone wrong, or that Banner would dare test it on himself, which is a really f*cking horrible story element.
I *despised* the way General "Thunderbolt" Ross was depicted, and how political they tried to make the movie. Ross was certainly an advesary, but an honorable one, not a means to express or foster distrust in military defense forces. Betty was horrid... just *bad*.
I * despised* the lack of a hardcore soundtrack. That movie needed some CRUNCH in the music.
I *despised* the fact that the entire storyline of the Abomination was reduced to a whole friggin 20 minutes, none of which included Banner thinking he was the murderous beast that caused Ross to mobilize against the Hulk, or describe the motivation of Blonksy which was to make Banner suffer as much as his wife had when she died of cancer from being exposed to his *accidentally* irradiated form.
I * despised* the fact that had I known any less of any of this the movie would have kicked that much more arse.
I *despised* the fact I loved every bit of this movie, with the exception of the soundtrack that BEGGED for some metal.
7.25 out of 10.

raum, were the statements preceding your last sarcastic? B/c you seem to despise a whole lot of stuff to give this movie a 7.25/10. :praum wrote:I *despised* Emil Blonksy's portrayal... only because he wasn't a Russian double agent who was accidentally blasted with gamma rays. With that said, I think I would give this movie about the same score. I so deeply want to be able to love a Hulk movie; the guy is neck-and-neck with Spidey as my favorite Marvel character. Instead, I only really liked The Incredible Hulk. And you know what the strange part is? I enjoyed the drama as a whole more than the action! Don't get me wrong, the action was very good. The first two action sequences were fantastic, but I was let down by the final act. Maybe b/c of all the hype surrounding it, but it just didn't do it for me. It certainly wasn't the slugfest I was expecting. With the way Abomination floored Hulk to start the fight, his defeat felt a little rushed.
Which was how several parts of this movie felt. I'm looking forward to the DVD that much more now. I'd really like to know what was cut out. Still, the movie was well worth watching. I was particularly surprised by the chemistry between Norton and Tyler. They kept the movie pretty entertaining in between the action pieces. Roth was great too, though I really feel like his character's story could've been fleshed out more.
Good first effort from Marvel in the reboot of this franchise. Hope they can build on it for a sequel!

My score of 7.25 is kind.
I just really need a "Forget everything you know, and learn a new story" warning in the beginning of a movie....

Re: The Incredible Hulk (2008 Film)
I almost agree with you there. i liked the drama about equally with the action. i really think Marvel made huge editing cuts in the final version released to theaters. Apparently there was a scene set in the arctic cut out from the beginning where Banner was contemplating suicide where he "meets" Captain America (probably a vague figure trapped in a block of ice) which Marvel had Letterier cut out cos they felt it was "too dark" for the kiddies (really ironic considering their main character destroys & smashes everything in his path). these idiots at the company (or the producers) have I think, shot themselves in the foot by making drastic edits. More than ever,i think what we saw in the cinema was Marvel's edit & not what Letterier & Norton had in mind for us. i hate to say it, but I think there could have been a hugeass difference between the finished 104 min version we saw & the roughly 145 minute cut those 2 wanted (I cite the huge differences between the theatrical version & the vastly superior Director's Cut of Terminator 2) . I think even the final battle with Abomination was cut in half so they could get a better rating from the fucking MPAA. there are bits in it where it feels the edits were savagely cut. I also still contend that the Stark cameo was moved from it's post-credit place to it's pre-credit position due to the fact they decided to use it as a last minute lure in the ad campaign. Don't even get me started on the Doc Samson thing! now I've had a bit of time to digest the whole movie, I'm mad that he was relegated to a tiny cameo. Shit Stan Lee's role did more to push the story along that Samson's brief appearances!. Hulk gets a 7.5 from me too now.ne0knight wrote:And you know what the strange part is? As a kind of an aside, i'd like to mention my now more distrustful nature of Marvel Studios due to my picking up a $5 copy of X3 earlier today. I now believe that Jon Favreau was totally responsible for Iron Man after what i watched this afternoon. I decided to check out the extras on the X3 dvd first & lo & behold, I discovered a damning piece of evidence that has reduced my trust in head of Marvel Films,Kevin Feige: he produced that piece of mutant shit along with Avi Arad! & Ghost Rider too (I imdb'd that fact))!Before that i really believed Feige's interests were legit in making sure Marvel put out better product than their studio licenced movies. NOT ANYMORE. I will now be crazy wary of every subsequent release Marvel puts out due to the fact of them wanting to rush their forthcoming slate by giving unrealistic dates. FUCK 'EM!!!!
I still love Iron Man & also those Sonic Cannons though. :p

Re: The Incredible Hulk (2008 Film)
the *S.C.A.R.E.* guns were great. (*sonic concussive audible resonant emission*)
Am I to believe that Betty's boy who ratted them out was THE Doc Samson? BULL!!!
**fume** Please don't tell me that was anywhere near what I am expected to believe.
Cause the other dude who jacked up psuedo-blonksy was Leader. fo sho!
The worst thing is I am almost sure a Captain America movie will be WAY off kilter now. Especially if they ret-con Captain America to tie into the Hulk. But who is gonna watch a movie where Captain America is gonna basically be trying to keep the Nazis from making a super glue to win the war?
..and if they can't do a good Captain America, it will just be downhill for the Avengers.

An astute observation..! CDR...Prior to Ang's film, the only thing I really knew about The Hulk was that all other incarnations of it sucked in comparison to the TV Show...I've never really read any Hulk comics or been a fan...I was able to just enjoy this movie...And MAN...I don't know what it is with Liv...But when Banner was about to beat that up in the hotel I think I was ready to go green my damn self...I think its her lips...And what I took from her performance was that she just adored Bruce...It was just fun...About as much fun as I want to have at a movie not named Zohan this summer...raum wrote:My score of 7.25 is kind.

No it wasn't.. if you are talkin' about the old guy shop owner.
trivia: that old dude is actually the guy who used to voice Banner & Hulk in the 60s cartoon show.
