Eddie Murphy To Retire From Movies

“I have close to 50 movies and it’s like, why am I in the movies?” he said, adding, “I’ve done that part now. I’ll go back to the stage and do standup.”

Murphy, 47, said that while a “Beverly Hills Cop 4″ flick was in the works, he didn’t want to do it, because “the movie wasn’t ready to be done.”

Please God, LET THIS BE TRUE!!!
I've hated everything he's done post-Beverly Hills Cop III. Dude needs to return to his stand-up roots .

Oh man Jig, you can't mean that...Hated..? I'll admit, I haven't been in love with his films like Dr. Dolittle and them shit, but Nutty Professor...Norbit...Bowfinger...Great shit to me...

But either way, the move back to stand-up is good for all involved...Not anybody since he did Raw has gotten it quite right...

Yeah Bowfinger was good. Never saw Norbit, but heard terrible things. Looked like a rehash of the Nutty Professor stuff. I just don't think he reads any of the scripts he's handed. What was that one a few years ago? Pluto Jones or something...rechh! And the new one Dave looks horrendous, I feel uncomfortable for the man just watching the commercials.

His standup was great though.

Pluto Nash...I mean, I've seen worse...It was an OK little movie to me, but not no shit I'd watch on repeat like his other stuff...I think that's what gives people the sense of failure where he's concerned...If somebody turned on Raw right now, dudes would be laughing like that shit just came out...

The humor in Norbit will probably not be understood by all, but it wasn't anything like either of the NP movies to me...His Norbit character was genius IMO...I just think alot of what Eddie does isn't really mainstream, but he's so mainstream thus the the misunderstandings...Everybody loves Raw, cause well...He didn't seem to give a fuck, lol...He's a brilliant comedian man, and a great actor...Shit like Coming to America..? Harlem Knights..? Vampire in Brooklyn..? Trading Places..? Shit, I'd even watch Life if it came on...

He's had some shitty ones NO DOUBT...But imagine the work he put in to even pull off a film like Nutty Professor...I can't think of a person that has probably worked harder than dude to singlehandedly carry films like he does...Truth be told, Eddie probably hasn't gotten nearly as much due as some other comics in the game doing the same thing...

If we were to pull up a list of Eddie's movies as a whole, I bet you 85% of them were at least pretty good...I just didn't watch the Dr. Dolittle joints, nothing could save them for me at any rate, but...Dude has a catalog of great movies...When he's playing everybody in the movie, some people see that as a knock, but if you can't picture anybody else in the role, that's awesome..!

Jig, you know you like Shrek too...Maybe even Dreamgirls... :D

Like I said, admittedly, there are some extreme sleepers...But for various reasons, I'd say you should give Norbit a pass...That shit was gut busting to me and all my folks...

the man is a legend! Sure his more recent stuff isnt on the same level as the early days but its still worth a few laugh out aloud moments
and I forget Shrek/donkey, genius
not so sure he should go back to stand up, I dont think he has the same edge & originality as he did back in the day

I don't see Shrek as an Eddie Movie. Outside of Bowfinger,Life,The 2 Nutty movies & that horrid Guru movie, i've not seen any of his other joints post-'94. I don't like to see the great fall flat on their faces.

Maybe I'm a bit deluded but I se Nutty Prof 1 & 2, Doolittle & Bowfinger as 5/5 movies, but admittedly they're no Beverly Hills Cop or Coming To America or Trading Places! Just looking at filmography, Distinguished Gentleman, loved it!
