Re: Hancock
One good news bit about Hancock, one of Team 1337's finest, Lauren M. Hill, has a small part in the movie...

Well the latest news is that all those who've gotten to screen it have totalled a lousy 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. The general message from all of them is: Nice concept. Poor execution. Once again it proves my distrust of films of any genre that have to do last minute reshoots. History has shown us this. Iron Man this is definitely not.

Re: Hancock
Well Hollywood...what can ya say when they get their hands too much around a superhero property. That's why I dig what Marvel is doing taking the power back and making the stories and characters closer to what they are where fans loved them in the first place.Sir Jig-A-Lot wrote:Well the latest news is that all those who've gotten to screen it have totalled a lousy 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Did you ever hear how years ago mid 90's I think and Peter Gubers was trying to get his Superman production through, it involved a completely new Superman outfit, Lex Luthor with powers like Supes, a gay robot sidekick for Supes like R2-D2 (but gay) and something like flying back and forth to Krypton. Hollywood just doesn't get the genre and we usually end up getting stuck with productions like X-Men 3 and Batman & Robin.

Re: Hancock
CDR! Don't forget Guber's plans of Supes fighting a polar bear & a giant robot spider. The latter of which made it into another Guber production (ironically starring Smith) , Wild Wild West. Check out An Evening With Kevin Smith for the full real & hilarious backstory on the 90s Stuperman project. RT now has Hanjob at 36% & plummeting Word on the vine is that it has been tweaked & edited down even more for general audiences so that the version seen by them will be even more convoluted than what the advance critics are already flaming hard. What an expensiveass mess! :crap: .

Yeah that's too bad. I think it woulda been cool if he was a god of clothespins or whatever and was amnesiac. That sounded like a cool idea and woulda beat Thor to the theater. I keep hearing how confusing and non directional it is too.

I despise movies that can't decide on the direction they take or what they're tryin' to be.

Moderate $17.4 Mill. Open for Hancock
Source: Box Office Mojo, Edward Douglas

Will Smith's return to the 4th of July weekend might not be the wham-bam blockbuster hit originally projected as Sony's superhero action flick Hancock opened with just $17.4 million on Wednesday after Tuesday night previews took in an additional $6.8 million.
It's not a terrible opening. In fact, it's in the Top 15 opening Wednesdays ever, surpassing the opening day for Warner Bros'Batman Begins three years ago. Then again, it's just below the Wednesday opening of Will Smith's breakout hit Independence Day twelve years ago and about a million lower than the opening day of Smith and Sony's comedy sequel Men in Black II six years ago. A big difference is that with the 4th of July being on Friday this year, Hancock could follow the pattern of previous movies that opened on July 2, such as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, in which case much of the movie's business will come on Friday and Saturday. Right now, we're projecting a three-day opening of between $62 and 65 million, which would make it the third or fourth biggest three-day opening for the holiday weekend behind Spider-Man 3 and last year's Transformers.
