raum, the article says that he wrote a letter...Furthermore, he wrote the letter when he was no longer employed...Everyone knows he wrote the letter, and seemed pleased that he did so...I'm not sure what you're getting at...
raum wrote:that he was getting paid by a man who was his employer and who he was backing in another project for state funds.
That must not be in the same article...The article clearly says that he wrote the letter months after he was no longer working there...Unless I can't read...
raum wrote:it was not on his disclosure forms
What wasn't on disclosure forms..? Since when do you have to disclose your financial earnings on a letter...?
raum wrote:Obama got paid for "legal advice" he never gave
That's speculation on your part, sorry...And furthermore, lawyers make money...If you're suggesting 8,000 a month is a little high to pay an Ivy League law graduate to be on a legal retainer, then say that...

Even more so the article says:
Article wrote:Business relationships between lawmakers and people with government interests are not illegal or uncommon in Illinois or other states with a part-time Legislature, where lawmakers supplement their state salaries with income from the private sector.

i agree blixa (is that blixa like Nuebauten? love blixa - saw him with nuebaten and nick cave in the same year at the warfield!!!)

thank you! I think the things that come out in the wash should be dealt with, and that kind of rational and fair redeeming action is perfect due course for any partisan or nonpartisan candidates laundry that comes out in the wash.

What's the wrong doing on Obama's part..? I missed it...From the outset of the article:
Article wrote:..............about whether the money might have been misspent.
Article wrote:"whether this charitable organization properly used its charitable assets, including the state funds it received
So, let me get this straight...Obama awards him the grant...He gets the grant, pisses it off somehow, and...It's Obama's fault..?
Article wrote:But Obama's actions in awarding the money are not a focus of the investigation
Next.... :)

Here, check this;

Obama writes a letter for a dude to get a grant. a dude that bust him out a check for 500 bucks. The grant is to build 50 homes. The dude ultimately builds a dozen.

that was in 1997.

In 2006, this dude who already squandered grant money is given ANOTHER grant. His wife starts a construction company, and he "pays" her to do all the work.

Why else would ANYONE give someone a grant to do one job when they never got the first one done? it's either crooked or stupid... but ultimately it is just bad use of tax dollars.

Bad use of tax dollars, sure...But if there is anything to fault, I would say that it is the initial intent that would be a problem...The projects didn't work out as intended, but the motive seemed to be noble...Obviously, as the article pointed out, there is nothing to suggest Obama would kick in on these things for a $500 contribution, when this guy pissed off alot more than that...But, its worth it to see what the investigation yields...

Also, if this was the only grant Obama helped write, then its understandable why we would think he would want to keep a closer eye on it...My initial suspicion is that its the responsibility of whomever cut the check and was to oversee the project is more responsible than anything...

Or the fact that the guy DID THIS TWICE? After getting 12 instead of 50 houses done on a grant the first time, what cause did Obama have referring this guy the omesecond time?

That is bullshit, and you are no so blind you can't see that.

If you pay me to build you a hardwood porch and patio, with a second tier deck and a balcony with a panoramic view, built in wetbar, and photovoltaic cells to power an auxillary generator for your home, and an ionic water condensor to provide filtered morning dew for potable water supply... and I build you some plywood steps...

Are you going to refer me to your cousin who wants a olympic lap pool with reverse osmosis jetstreams, solar lighting and heating, and marble tiled?

Like I said, stupid or crooked.

Back in the day, we used to move mobile homes...

Say someone paid us up front to move 12 houses...We only mange to move 3 of them...The person hires us to do a different job at a time later on...Now, you could say we didn't do the job...Or, if you knew that the lot that the houses are on is full of ruts and covered in brush, and the conditions are ridiculous, its something else...

Until we know the entire reason why the other houses didn't get built (I didn't see it disclosed in that article) its open for debate...We can assume that they forgot about the other 38 houses, or we can assume that there is possibly another reason they didn't get built that the city felt was legit enough not to distrust him...On top of that, a measly $500 contribution..? What's the point..?
