Beatles video unearthed after 44 years

Post by AYHJA »

Previously unseen footage of The Beatles playing an unscheduled gig during their first tour of America has been found lying in a drawer after 44 years.

3:34PM GMT 28 Oct 2008 [telegraph.co.uk]

The colour, but silent, film was recorded covertly at the concert in Kansas in 1964 and is believed to be the only recording of the 31 minute gig.

Fan Drew Dimmel, who is now selling the roll of 8mm film reel at a British auction house, was 15 when he went to see the band in his home city.

He took his father's brand new "movie" camera and despite strict restrictions about filming, managed to persuade a local reporter to take some shots.

After getting home, Drew checked the film contained footage of The Beatles then shut it in a drawer and forgot about it.

Two months ago the 59-year-old was clearing out his parents' home and was stunned when he discovered the tape still in its photo-lab box.

Although there are just two minutes of footage the pre-sale estimate is a whopping 6,000 pounds and Beatles collectors from around the world are expected to bid.

Even if there was nothing else new about The Beatles, their official work has so many dimensions i could spent my whole life diggin into that.

Yes indeed i can be pointed out as a Beatle fan ... but as a musician (a very bad and limitated one) i even find more intresting things to feed my brain on their music than just screaming at those dudes.

(Hope McCartney can make it to southamerica so i can see him perform live)

The Beatles Official Studio albums:

* Please Please Me (Parlophone, 1963)
This record was done in one day, has a lot of all time classic (written by Lennon&McCartney and other standards)

* With The Beatles (Parlophone, 1963)
As any Beatle album has it classics, the best of this one is some three-voices interpretations (Lennon&McCartney&Harrison)

* A Hard Day's Night (Parlophone, 1964)
IMHO the best early era Beatle album, amazing song all written by L&McC

* Beatles for Sale (Parlophone, 1964)
Some rock standards with a Beatle twist and some L&McC jewells aswell

* Help! (Parlophone, 1965)
The last early Beatle era album, has many classic from L&McC, great compositions

* Rubber Soul (Parlophone, 1965)
Ok, now we get serious ... listening to it besides enjoying awesome tunes is comparable to watching the ancient man dominating fire

* Revolver (Parlophone, 1966)
Every song has an inovation broke the rules for the Rock/Pop music till then, even for those who hate the Beatles. This would be watching ancient men inventing the wheel

* Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Parlophone, 1967)
THE MASTERPIECE, psychedelic collection of songs that made possible all the freedom in music you listen since then.

* Magical Mystery Tour (U.S. only. Released as a Double EP in the UK) (Capitol, 1967)
The llittle brother of Sgt. Peppers in a psychedelic climax

* The Beatles ("The White Album") (Apple, 1968)
A two-disc album with experimentations of every kind of music, Folk, Blues, Rock and here`s done by the Beatles pushing them to a new level and other styles that didnt have a name then.

* Yellow Submarine (Apple, 1969)
An unattended Beatle album with some songs by the Beatles (cool some of them indeed) and a Symphonical work by Beatle producer Sir George Martin to complete the soundtrack for the same title amazing movie

* Abbey Road (Apple, 1969)
The last recorded Beatle album, they know they going to separate and give humanity this amazing work that echoes nowadays as The Beatles are the Best!

* Let It Be (Apple, 1970)
A complicated album, with a rude mood yet fantastic and complex arrangement in songs that on the first listening could be called simple beauties.

For you Ayhja i recommend you to listen either the compilation named "ONE", but if you are serious into diggind what is all about i guess that listening any of "Rubber Soul" "Revolver" "Sgt. Pepper's ..." could work, although the best would be listen them all in the exact order (with "Let it be" before "Abbey Road").

Ja - I'd say start with Revolver then work your way forwards or backwards.

Agreed, but listening to Love Me Do first would give a sense of the order of things, I believe it was the first Beatles record played on the radio, by Radio Luxbemburg on geez, groan.....
Oct.5th 1962.!!

I reckon listen to the the singles on ONE afterwards.
By the way, your list is of course of the British releases, which fortunately were the CD release versions, MMT excepted, not to be confused with the 'Butchered' American '2 into 3' releases.

Oh, if I could only take one to a desert island it would be Revolver. :)
