Anyone into astronomy?

#1

Post by Deletor »

So, I just stumbled on this place? What's it all about? If I gather correctly it's mostly about "the beauty of nature" :D So then are there people here who also appreciate the beauty of the cosmos and maybe use binocs and telescopes to observe them at night?

I had a couple of telescopes before, a smallish refractor followed up by a nice 700 mm refractor completely homemade. The views were spectacular. But its been a while since I did any observing, and am now planning to buy a binoc.

If you are a first time started its a great idea to go with binoculars. Something like 50mm with 10X magnification would be perfect. I suggest you visit the premier forums for ametuer astronomers, cloudynights.com, if you're interested in all sorts of advice and tips for starting out in astronomy.

Its good to see the interest in astronomy here :) There's so much out there, and the size and scale of the universe reminds us of our fragile blue marble we call earth. Plus of course the sites and wonders on display are so dang beautiful.

I was into it a while ago, but I just haven't had time. I have a 10" Orion DOB. The only problem is that I live too close to a ski area that pollutes my night sky with light to make snow at night. :curse:
