I finally got a PS3, a 60 gig backwards compatible one.

Here is my impressions and questions:

1. SETUP I have a WiiS360 set-up (wii + PS3 + 360) with component output to two HD TVs. I have set up each of these. The wii was for me, the hardest to set up (my router was on the blacklist, cause it was old.). The 360, from the minute I got it, was like "here is comes, get ready to BLOWWWW YOUR MIND! Have some fun, here;s a game to play while we get all this stuff set up!" The PS3 was like *blink* "hullo?" My impression, the wii was like inviting a slow distant cousin over and trying to be polite cause I know his parents. The 360 was like inviting a guy I hung out with at the arcades and just wants to have fun, and the ps3 was like finding an alien and taking it home and wondering if it was gonna eat me if i poke it with a stick.

2. CONSUME The PS3 makes it hard to actually find anything in their store. They do make the purchase easier though. The idea of "microsoft points" as a currency is not always convenient. In fact, it downright sucks, cause they sell them in increments like "hotdogs and buns" always some left, unless you buy in bulk. The 360 download is much faster, much "brighter", and honestly, makes me look forward to checking the demo out IMMEDIATELY. The wii is my girls, which is why it is still in the house. I bought some stuff on it - some of it wasn't horrible. They have "wii points", which is crap, and sell them in even more ridiculous increments than Microsoft does, and have little I actually want to play - but much of what I loved playing two decades por so ago. Xbox live is (IMHO) worth the subscription.

3. CONTROL I have both a SIXAXIS and a Dualshock 3, and all the controllers for the other consoles. Am I gonna break these things? seriously, these ps3 controllers are light, and feel a bit flimsy after holding the 360 controller. I do prefer the PS3 direction pad, the button response, but the triggers on the 360 feel more like triggers and the sticks are a bit better too. The best controller for the wii is the thrustmaster. Yes, because of the name. But it also plays all the classic games, and the virtual console and gamecube stuff. and all that still doesn't make the wii cool.

4. EXCLUSIVE WiiFit is great idea, but not a game and not really best suited to the wii. They also have some of the WORST exclusives that I have ever seen. The only wii exclusive games that are good are point and click adventures. These are fun, but only for one run through. The 360 has GREAT exclusives, Crackdown, Castle Crashers, some community games, and alot of other stuff (Gears, Halo, etc) that I really don't play. HOWEVER, Little Big Planet is the game that is the disk-based exclusive of the year. Castle Crashers is the non-disk based exclusive of the year. PS3 get on that train of thought that tracked down Little Big Planet AND RIDE THAT ALL THE WAY. Think : Little Big Castle Crashers!!! Three more like LBP for PS3, and I will not even have a 360 in the house. The exclusive PSP remote play for the PSP is a great thing - if you have a psp. I personally can't ever get into the psp.

5. COMMUNITY I hardly ever play 360 online. I don't have a bunch of online friends, though I have a bunch of friends online. I let them play their games, sometimes peek at their progress, and occasionally chat or run a few levels. I just think that I prefer to play alone, or with actual people in my house. For me playing games is not a substitute for society. My raum215 is my ID on both xbox live and Psn, but the wii is retarded and my Id is about 16 random digits, and nothing else will compute. i didn't even get to choose.

So my questions:

What should I get for my ps3? demos, games, accessories, a polishing cloth?

Here is what I want to check out so far:

Disgaea 3. (maybe, but this could be a damn long strategy game.)
Uncharted (fo sho! Tom Braider is a staple of my gaming.)
Eternal Sonata (know I will like this - played a bit already.)

but next week Persona 4 comes out, so until after then, all bets are off!!!

Yup, that about sums it up. That and Little Big Planet until I learn to make my own levels.

Congrats on joining the PS3 community..! Even though I've had my PS3 for quite some time, I still haven't really tapped its potential I think...I do know this, combined with a PSP and TVersity, I don't think I could ask for much more from a game system...I know the 360 is good, but I'm not much of a gamer anymore, and the PS3 and PSP give me all I can handle...Plus the demos are serviceable...I'll probably try to get myself a headset for Christmas...

I'm planning on trading in my 40G for one that is backwards compatible, though...I know some of them have the actual hardware, and some of them do software...I'm on the hunt for the hardware to avoid conflicts and potential problems...

Maybe you can download Home, and we can meet there one day and do some bowling... :)

how do you download Home? what is your PSN ID? Do they have minigolf?

as far as backward compatibility - gotta get a 60 gig - with the media slots in front. if you can't find one of those, just get a used ps2 slim on the cheap and keep your 40. the software backwards playable ones are not worth it, and they were phased out as well.

I know people think the 360 is just for games, but actually - with a netflix account, and xbox live you got little reason to buy most bluerays of new movies... till they come down in price.

As for games - man they don't platform much better than Little Big Planet, and you can make your own levels. One for couples, kids, and pals.... or just those who are a bit *odd*.

If I am ever in any trouble, I will never be hard to find...My PSN ID, is, of course, AYHJA...I'm not sure though, now that I think about it, if the Home BETA is still closed or not, I got an invite to it...But I downloaded it from the Playstation store and had to put in a code...Now that I've roamed around in it, I'm not AS excited as I was at first, but it certainly looks promising...To be able to meet friends in a vitural enviroment, talk (if you've got the headset), bullshit around and meet folk is endless fun upon itself...Gotta have some fight movies on there though, I was on my way to bowling at 280 and the fucker quit the game on me...I'd pay money to have my character unleashed or in the Matrix...

I think the new 120's do some sort of emulation, but I don't know what kind yet...I'm going to check into it, it's Christmas time and all my little hookups will be flourishing...

Hook you up some little big planet, sir. You will not regret it. You and your son will be most welcome to play with me and ang.

I played through the first part, got 100% on the first two levels (not counting the credit sequence). In my humble opinion, this is the best game for ME on the entire next gen market.

In summary: It is a non violent platformer with puzzle type game play that includes hidden prizes and as of yet "classic" environmental dangers (swinging over spikes, floating ghosts, pits and windmills and platforms over water, and getting squished so far). The prizes are customizable costume parts, keys to getting more prizes, and the components the game is made of that will let you make your own levels. The whole "story" mode is a collection of levels with classic gameplay with the most realistic physics to date I have seen. It is not quite 2D, and I am still getting the hang of the physics.

The tutorial on how to make games is VERY informative, or at least the 5% of it I have done is. By then, my head was full of ideas, and I don't even have any enemies you can kill by jumping on them yet. You can make your own levels and invite your friends in, and optionally you can publish 3 on the PSN. Many people have, and there are levels that are AWESOME, and push the ideas in the game mush further. In fact, with the collecting dots with jetpacks and the ghosties and such - you know this had to happen.

This is super mario (sortof), or pitfall, Solomon's key - or Castlevania (sortof) or even GRADIUS, tetris, or wipeout. It is what you make it, by creation or download. I think the only thing you can't have is a hand held weapon a gun. Someone has already made a version of Dante's Hell from the Inferno.

I plan on pretty much this as my game of preference, for a while, with a Persona 4 RPG backup for the ps2. It is like an arts and crafts class. AND it literally teaches file management, editing, physics, planning, sequencing, and even basic audio editing. If you have the camera - you can take photos of your own stuff, create a background for it, and ta-daaa! make your own completely custom graphics.

I am ultimately going to create some levels that incorporate the things that interest me, hint hint. Vertical planet - confirmed. ang already asked me to create a level to teach Hebrew. I just need to get all the stuff to make my levels and get the tutorials and stuff out the way.

As for the "look" - yah, it's cute. and damn witty. But it ain't easy. I am a grown man been playing video games for about 27 years of my life, and this has taught me some new things about gaming, and I have had had to work to get two levels at "ACED" and 100% completion to get everything (some levels require keys you get on later levels, and some require looking EVERYWHERE.) This is NES hard and a 1000 more times fun. Cause the whole time I am playing games, I am thinking about "what I could do." This gives you the tool set to make the whole game. Ain't no platformers been so mean and clever and rewarding as this beast.

And for the record, the playtesters recreated the ENTIRE game in the creator through the "Popit" window. I ask seriously, if you don't have this game, why is the world do you have a PS3?
