Actually its interesting you guys like AVG 8. I tried it and uninstalled the same day early this year. It slowed the computer down to a crawl. The AVG guys know that people kicked up a huge fuss that 8 sucked compared to 7.5. But they've gone the way of Norton and said screw efficiency, lets bog your system down with bloat. They even jump into popular forums where AV products are discussed and try to defend it.
Kaspersky is a dud. That company somehow managed to get their servers hacked and made customer info available.
I'm torn between Avira and Avast at the moment. I'm running Avast right now. The only thing I don't like about Avira is it brings up these stupid ads every time you update it...

AVG Bogs down your system..?
Currently, it's only using 1.92 MB of my systems resources, and I"m running my mail client at the time...I didn't install some of all that extra shit that came with it, especially that link checker business...But I haven't noticed AVG slowing down my PC at all...

But are you using the original version of AVG 8 , Ja ? or a newer build of it? I noticed the newer builds do not slow my shit down like 8.0 did (which is why i went back to 7.5 for a while until a couple of months back). The newer builds don't slow or lock the system up. At all.

I'm using 8.5 now...Looks like that whatever kinks there were in the 8, they've ironed out for this version...Right now its only using 584KB of my memory, so yeah, if there's a slowdown its likely not AVG that's causing it...

I am not sure if I should stick with AVG or adopt Avira. It has some pretty good reviews...

Avira is ok. i tried it 4 a week just to see what the hubub was about. Methinks there are a few kinks that need to be ironed out. At least in the free version.

I recently had AVG start acting VERY funny with me...For some reason, some process it was trying to run kept hanging up my system...Trend Micro did the same thing, and then I decided to do some reading, and came across GData...I like it so far, so if you're still hunting for some AV, try it...
