I'm keen to get an idea of what other people are using, if any of you are using, BitTorrent sites :)
I've noticed lately a shift away from Rapidshare in many places (not speaking about AYHJA) - deposit files, netload, hotfile and so on...
What I've found though is if the file is decent sized, like over 100mb or so, all of these file hosts screw with the free download so the probability of it completing is really low - plus you can't use a download manager to ensure it finishes. This really suxs when your internet is heavily capped like mine and it gets wasted.
The main guilty parties are deposit files (rarely ever completes), netload and hotfile. The others aren't so bad...
Don't know if this is other people's experience too... So much so that I've given up and don't even bother attempting downloading from these free hosts. At least with bittorrent I'm guaranteed to get the file I want.
So the places I'm using lately are:
thepiratebay.org
mininova.org
btjunkie.org
If you've got any other sites you like, fill me in. If it's a private tracker site, give me a brief run down of the requirements / how to get membership :)

Re: Favourite BitTorrent Sites
I don't use torrents much, but I too have noticed what you're talking about...Instead of using reliable hosts like RS, MU, and others, these new file hosting sites are popping up by the pound, and not doing that great to me...I think the ones I used are Demonoid and Deviloid, one of which I was uploading to a while back...I'd do more of it if I had cable, but with DSL I can't run full throttle both ways...
I don't care much about DF, that's for sure...I think most of these sites are encouraging poeple to use them based on pay systems or free clicks, but I'd be alot happier if folk just stuck to the main sites...It wouldn't be so bad if they worked, but as you said, they rarely do...
This summer I really hope to open up our own network, because the days of mass sharing are probably going to be coming to an end...I'm going to build a huge file server w/a redundant backup system, and just start dumping my DVD backups on them...Probably get you and WAY to help me figure out something that works best, and we can start building that way...

Thanks maynard, I had a look at those. Actually I had been using eztv.it in the past to get Smallville until the show went off the rails.
To AYHJA: Yes I gather there must be some pay-per click benefits or something in these download sites. I suppose there is a deeper purpose in the file hosts hampering free downloads to frustrate people into paying money for the premium service. Funny things is if their free service downloads never complete, it says a lot about how their premium service must be run.
Setting up a file server is an interesting idea. Bandwidth isn't cheap though, except maybe in the US. Even then, US law is against it's own citizens and if I lived there I'd be reluctant to host files that could have my house searched without warrants and equipment taken because it was "copyright" or "illegal" in some way.
Even Rapidshare is said to have given police details of someone who uploaded "illegal" content to it lately - I can find the link if anyone is interested.
As a side note, just a warning to anyone clicking on those protected links, in particular "lix.in" - it has been injecting malware for some time now.

Re: Favourite BitTorrent Sites
I don't use torrents at all anymore; it's to much of a hassle to find seedings.
I used to have some success with it, one example being a file I was DL'ing in excess of 10 GB; too bad it crapped out on me at 99.7%
I also had received an invite to either Demonoid/Deviloid, but it seems I nver got around to using it, and the username/password is never recognized anymore.
For those here interested, I have this site in my notebook: http://pornolab.net/forum/ that I believe is a great resource for hardcore collector's, but I am not quite advanced enough to want to try my hand at downloading single torrents that are in excess of 5 GB each. (You may need to brush up on your Russian before trying to register, though.)
