My New Laptop

#1

Post by Deepak »

So I'm finally building my own laptop of dell. These are the current specs that im looking at. This is a dell XPS 16

Any suggestions will be welcome. Im currently deciding between vista home premium or ultimate and still deciding on the processor as well. I might be going for Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz/ 1066 FSB/ 3MB Cache) rather than the one listed below but at the same time ... there is a cost associated with that so I might not

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T6500 (2.10GHz/ 800 FSB/ 2MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista(R) Ultimate SP1 32 bit Edition (English)
Microsoft(R) Works 9.0 (Does Not Include Microsoft(R) Office 2003/2007 Software)
4GB (2 X 2GB) Dual Channel 1067MHz DDR3 SDRAM
320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Slot Load 8X DVD + /-RW Drive with double layer write capability
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670
Integrated CREATIVE Sound Blaster(R) X-Fi MB Audio Software Solution
6-Cell (56WHr) Li-Ion Primary Battery
90W AC Adapter
Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card
Dell(TM) Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module
Obsidian Black 15.6 " 1080p WUXGA (1920x1080) WLED Full HD Display w/ 2MP cam

It really depends whether I go for the vista ultimate and a better processor.

But if I get vista ultimate without going up on the processor Im looking at $2,420.62 NZ. If I go to home premium than Im looking at $2200 or well there about.

That screen is a little small I think, but that certainly seems like a good enough system Deep, I say go for it...Seems a BIT pricey, PM st4 and see what he thinks...

now that Dell is selling through Best Buy and Walmart, you can sometimes find a comporable Dell system available through the retail outlets at a discounted price to the on-line version. The on-line sales/oredering model is perfect if you want to build your own.... but if you want to take advantage of the volume purchasing power that a retailer has, checking them out could pay-off for you. What you sacrifice in customization might be worth the cost savings.

also - what is your timing? do you need it immediately or can you afford to wait and watch for sales..... Keep in mind, Dell's 2nd quarter for FY10 ends with July.... so there is the possibility of some sale prices the last week of the month.

Unfortunately there are very few places in NZ that actually sell Dell these days. If they do then the systems are very basic and not really that great. So I have decided to build my own. I could quite possibly wait to the end of the month.

Thanks for the heads up St4. I didnt know that they will be having sales so im going to look out for that for sure.

I have had a look around at HP's as well. But nothing that caught my fancy. I know customizing does have its cost but it allows for me to have what I want.

The screen size is 15.6 " and its a good enough screen size for me. Thanks guys

Yup there will be a free upgrade by dell for when windows 7 does come out. Basically if you get a home premium you get a equivalent of windows 7

There is no guarantee, but it is not unusual at quarter end close.
