AVG is a very poor product, from personal experience and being that this isn't the first false positive that AVG has screwed up. There are better free solutions out there, such as Avast.

Loving AVG here as well..Some programs use 'suspicious' tactics...So, I'll live with the once in a blue moon false positives for a great free product...Note to self, continue to ignore Apple products..!

Haha! This was my first threat detection with AVG in my six months of using it, and the threat wasn't even real.

The bad thing about this was I had to update my iTunes, which I hate doing, because they always package it with Quicktime, and install/uninstall/reinstall my players. Something about the iPod doesn't allow it to receive movies from any other media players but iTunes. I hate it.

That's my biggest, biggest beef with Apple man...Why not just offer the programs separate, and then on top of that, you can only interface with through that shit...I'm not going to lie, I was seriously considering an iPhone until I read that you can't sync without that shit...And you can't tether it to a pc...So, like I plugged up my psp and drag movies to and fro, I'd only be able to do that with their software...Seems awful slavish to me...

Lots of people have been annoyed by this for sure. Won't be good press for AVG - though I don't know how much they care since the "AVG 7.5 forced to 8.0 debacle".

I've got Avira running on some computers and Avast on others but I've given up on AVG.

Regarding the ipod, I found it to be pretty annoying. My sister got given a new version of the thin ipod and asked me how to backup the old one. Can't just copy the files across - took a while of fiddling to do it. Want to put a movie on it - gotta use itunes or some other program - can't just copy the movie on it. I personally wouldn't buy one for myself.

On my desktop I have 4 running processes related to Avast.

ashDisp.exe *32 - 1,680KB
ashServ.exe *32 - 17,100KB
AshWebSv.exe *32 - 46,456KB
aswUpdSv.exe *32 - 336KB

That's barely 65MB worth of processes but I also have 3 of the realtime protection's running (Network, Web and Standard). You can customize and remove any of those to reduce effectiveness. There are also other services such as P2P, Outlook, webmail, etc. It's loaded with features to protect you.

Also, unlike AVG, it has free anti-rootkit protection which is becoming more common type of malware out there.

I can say that when my file/P2P server was running AVG 7.5 and I opened an infected file, my entire server was infected. AVG kept popping up with reports of detections but could do nothing to remove or clean them. In fact, AVG reported it's own running service as being infected as well. Nothing like an AV program itself getting infected. I had to completely reformat.

I switched to Avast after that. I haven't had a single infection since and Avast has the web scanning protection so it actually prevented me from downloading infected files. It also saved me against Antivirus 2009 as well.

Considering I run 4GB RAM, 65MB of it is rather paltry to consider not having better protection. ;)

Regarding Norton 360 bloat, my parents actually had that and indeed Norton 360 was bloated. Their computer was pathetically slow, even with a dual core AMD CPU and 2GB DDR2. I took the liberty of removing Norton 360 and installing Avast. Computer is blazing fast now and parents no longer complain. :dance:

That's the most annoying thing about ipod,iphone,itunes and apple media in general: you cannot share whatever are on those devices or media synched to that program. you can have the most cheapass generic $5 mp3 player and share what on it with others at the drop of a hat,butt nooooooooooooo not apple. someone above said Slavish. most apt in describing apple how operate right down to the rotten core. and those ipod n' mac zombies think they have the right to look down on others or feel exclusive. they need to look down at steve jobs' shackles around their ankles first methinks.
