Obama wins the Noble Peace Prize

Raum, i agree with you. Personally I support what Obama's way to become friendlier to Islamic world and third world nations. But it still to early to see the outcome. So his strategy is unproven yet.

OK, I can go with that argument...You know you have to talk to me differently, lol...Maybe he did get it early...But for every list we can make to come up to suggest the reasons we think he got it vs the reasons he did vs the list of accomplishments he could list for merit could go on for more DB space than we have...But saying he flat out didn't deserve it..? I'm not feeling it...The fact that he even dares to go out in public on a regular basis speaks volumes...Shit they got sniper rifles these days that can make Oswald's Carcano look like a fucking Red Ryder Ranger...

I think it could definitely have been premature, but since we don't yet know all the facts, I'm proud to have him being recognized by an international panel as deserving for such a prestigious award...Early or not, the potential momentum gained from getting an award like this is good for all of us...Another reason I can't see why there's so much distaste...

I much support Obama, which will not be a surprise to many of you who remember my adversity to the Bush administration, he is a very very welcome change.

I am with Raum here in believing that this prize came way to early though. I can sum it up in one line: I suppose / hope that Obama will have deserved this prize by the time his legislation is over; having been given it at this moment it is way too early though.

At any rate, I am still hoping someone can explain to me why we keep saying he got it early, as if he hasn't done ANYTHING...Maybe I don't understand the nature of the award, but are you supposed to have done something profound in the eyes of the public to have gotten this award..? Ghandi never won it, history holds him to be quite remarkable...

Again, we don't know what they based the award on...Unless we're saying the reason that they gave is bullshit, what gives..?

Lets say he made it a point early in his administration to work really hard to promote international diplomacy...Maybe what he did was unprecedented, and thus they saw fit to give him the award...I mean, if the panel was on Halsted instead of Norway, maybe we'd have a point...

Are we calling the members of the committee ignorant..? Overly optimistic..? Do they do this often..?

I mean, if the past winners have all been justified or at least people are saying, ''Yeah, I can see why they won it," how does the buck stop here..?

Again, I ask...What is wrong with, ""for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" as a legitimate reason to be given an award for Peace..?

Can you imagine what being the first legitimate black candidate for President must be like..? You don't think that while he was at a rally on the campaign trail, someone didn't haul off and call him everything but a child of God..? What awesome courage and cool dude has man...People insult him beyond what words will allow, show the ultimate disrespect, and he smiles and moves forward...How is that so much more different than MLK holding his own and strengthening others with his example..?

Some of you may fail to be impressed by such things, but I am in awe...I think it just requires a different perspective to appreciate it...There are tons of people that deserve that award or maybe even one like it, and don't even get mentioned or thought of...If Barak has managed to inspire hope in the international community where the once was none, I'd say that's pretty fucking impressive, wouldn't you..? I mean, who else has done such a thing..? If all he's done is sell hope, and it worked, so what..? Who else could we even put into that category..? Who else has impressed the international community to a point where they're thinking, ''Yeah man, we can fix this..."

I mean, why belittle even that achievement, as if any one of us could undertake that task and succeed..?

Shit, I've been putting my heart and soul into this site for 5 years and I consider myself extremely blessed to have 40 people a day make this a 5-10 minute stop...Dude has the whole world listening and watching, and excited...People, that's incredible...

For the record, I wasn't criticising our President in this; except I feel he should have declined. But that is his business, not our president's. I am more upset for what has become of his starfucking estate holders.

So this has nothing to do with the Peace Prize (or maybe it does a little)

But what do you guys think of all the damn hooplah about Obama bowing to the emperor of Japan?

To me, I liked it and see it as a sign of respect. This is exactly why he should get the Peace Prize (at some point in his career, but probably not just yet). A lot of conservatives are in an uproar saying that it makes America look weak and that we should never bow to an emperor. In my opinion, that's the same "my dick is bigger than your dick" power play that has America sitting in the "most hated country in the world" spot right now. We act like we're better than everyone and can't even show respect to someone in their own country. I think Obama is making an effort to try and change that perception...and it is precisely that and the way we respects other people that will eventually (hopefully) win over some of these other countries so we can smooth out relations.

I'm just not understanding what the crisis is here. I thought it was a nice gesture.

Who gives a shit who he bows to, the states are still the worlds dominant military power, so obama goes around playing nice on camera, he has already decreased tensions around the world, helped get many of the US's allies back on side.
I would rather look at how the trade agreements the US is signing will work with what is a weaker dollar and what could be a rejuvinated US manufacturing sector.

Here is what I think. Men bow to each other in respect in Japan. Especially men who are speaking of business. It is a formal protocol of japanese business etiquette. Two men bowing in mutual recognition does not imply either is an inferior. Whoever is claiming to have an issue with that is just looking for shit to find wrong.
