CHICAGO (AP) -- Andre Dawson will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Montreal Expo, despite his preference to go in as a Chicago Cub.
The hall announced its decision Wednesday. Dawson told WMVP-AM in Chicago that he thought hall officials would discuss the issue with him in detail before the decision was made. He said he wanted a chance to tell them "what really catapulted me to Hall of Fame status and pretty much what my preference was but I think their decision had been made. It was a little gut-wrenching for me to hear that but it's their decision."

Re: Hall denies Dawson's Cubs request
Well after the reading the article I understand why they wouldn't leave it solely up to the player...but if the contributions are pretty similar like that....it would only seem right to consider what the player wants.
Granted I understand the argument of trying to capture the history of the game, and teams may be important in that regard....but if you're going to honor the player for his accomplishments...to me, it doesn't matter what team he played for...put a generic ass hat on him, particularly if part of their defense is that the plaque lists all the teams anyway.
