Firefox 3 - The beginning of the end..?

As many of you know, I'm an avid Firefox fan boy...But shame to say, I've been using Chrome a lot more here lately...With the recent updates, my Firefox has been acting really funky...Coupled with some compatibility issues with some of my favorite extensions, I'm starting to wonder has Firefox run its course...

Tab switching is becoming problematic, when I click on a link and it opens in a new tab, Firefox is doing some very high computing, and I can't click on the tab until it finishes loading...It will give me a string of "not responding" messages before the page finally opens...

I am not so sure that the problem is extension related...Of course I started a new profile and the problems persisted...Now that Chrome has jumped into the extension market, I find it harder and harder to wait for Firefox to open...Even though its faster than before, it seems to have taken a step backwards speed wise...Meanwhile, Chrome opens almost immediately, even if I was using a huge session before...

I'm thinking it may just be time for a format, but I don't know man...Have any of you noticed any visible differences with Firefox now..?

Yeah the last couple of FF versions crash a lot for no reason I can find. I've been thinkin' I may have to try Chrome or downgrade to a more stable older version.

First tried Chrome for Windows when it was at version 2. It was fast and simple, but too appeared to be to "Googlezied" (too tied into Google).
OpenDNS shortcuts did not work and OpenDNS says that they could not get them to work - think that they said that Google was getting the url before them - or would not let them get the url.
Have the latest version for Windows but have not really use it since then.
Have not tried the Linux version.

Was using FF for my main browser, but now using Opera for my main browser, mainly because it is faster than FF (even with turbo turned off). Unfortunately some sites are not Opera friendly so I use FF for those.

Agred. Opera is basically my "every-site" browser, it is wicked fast both in terms of inital load and running capacity, and in the four plus years of use, it's only ever crashed in-session maybe less than 5 times (crashed on DivShare because the site wasn't entirely supported by Opera then). Firefox has become a real magnet for crashing even when I have just two or three tabs open now.

If I ever need to head to NFL.com to catch up on highlights (the Opera browser can't open the videos that NFL.com hosts), I switch over to the fox. It's not bad, but it's also not as integral as I've made my Opera.

Also, of all the Firefox extensions I've come across, there is some way or method in which Opera already has these "essential" apps already installed into its core. (the only thing missing is something like DownThemAll). And in addition to 'Synchronization, all of my bookmarks, notes, speed dial, history and searches from my Opera account can be brought over to any other computer that uses Opera and/or allows me to access Myopera.com to log in.

Might have to adopt Chrome, though, and give it a test trial, seeing how a few of you tout its functionality.

As a web developer, I still use Firefox a lot since its various web dev plugins are irreplaceable. Still, Google Chrome is now my primary normal use browser. It's faster and simpler. I've grown tired of Firefox's standard menu layout. Version 3.7 was supposed to look like Chrome and new Opera versions, but they scratched that whole way of development and will be concentrating on delivering constant minor updates, so who knows when that interface is going to show up (without 3rd party modifications/themes/plugins).

For the same aforementioned reason, I pretty much have all major browsers installed on my computers, just to check if my work is compatible with the lot of them.

Recently, I fixed myself a nice HTPC running behind a huge Sony Bravia LCD HDTV and on that system I'm using Opera because its zoom capabilities are amazing. It doesn't distort the pages but all the text is readable on the screen from the other side of the room. It's a pretty cool experience, being able to sit in the sofa with a wireless keyboard and surf the net. In fact, that's the way I'm writing this post.

Chrome is too Googled out for me to like it. I loathe it's lack of options and also it's horrible download manager.

Firefox is perfectly stable for me but I merely use Adblock Plus and ChatZilla extensions. If anything else I do like the new Opera 10.5. It doesn't load web pages as fast as Firefox does though, despite the supposed claims that it is faster. It's actually slower than Firefox from my experience.

I use FF on Linux with a lot of add-ons, no problems version after version, besides normal navigation I do web application testing with Selenium and other stuff and no complains.
I've installed Chrome as a second navigator rarely use it.

I don't know what it is man, I'm arsed to think its one of my extensions, uninstalled and loaded another clean profile, and it was back to its old fast self...Mine isn't crashing, just using a lot of CPU for some reason...If I click on an image, and it starts to load in a new tab, I can't click on the Tab...

I see there's a new update this morning, I got it and am testing it out now...I plan to download Opera today though, just to see how far along its come since I stopped using it years ago for Firefox...I use Chrome side by side w/Firefox now, and also use K-Meleon from time to time...I'm going to start using IE9 when it comes out, as I use IE8 now for my dealings on msn and live...
