Captain America: The Fill-in until Avengers

Totally. The further comic book flicks diverge from the source material, The wacker they are. 'cept Blade. The remix on him was sorely needed & appreciated. Now the comics version is following Norrigton's lead in making the guy a DayWalker.

Yeah Blade didn't have a cemented in origin like most of the big heavy hitters do. He was almost a blank canvas which worked out for the character in the movies. The rest of these guys need to stay very close or dead on to the source material or you get a Fantastic Four or Catwoman. They shouldn't fuck with Cap. He's got a fairly easy origin but it's been established for 80 years now so don't go changing it now by making him a poof ya fuckhead Johnson. Did you see his Wolfman by the way? Haven't seen it yet but I've heard bad things.

It's not Joe Johnston I'm worried about,Darkie. It's the fact that the Scourge Of Marvel's Comic Book Movies is on board as one of Cap's major producers: Avi Arad. I think thou art familiar with the cinematic damage he hath wrought with his executive producer tampering :

Spider-Man 3 (Forcing Venom & Gwen on Raimi after filming had started)
Daredevil (Ben Asslick's casting & also for the Theatrical Cut which the masses think defines Daredevil)
Elektra (Greenlighting this mess)
X-Men 3 (Refusing to wait for Singer to finish directing Superman so he could finish his trilogy)
Both FF movies (hiring Tim Story to direct & casting Julian MacMahon as Doom cos he liked Nip/Tuck)
Blade 3 (Letting Goyer direct)
Incredible Hulk (refusing Norton-as-screenwriter his cut of the movie {even on home media} thereby negating the Doc Samsom/Bruce storyline & also disallowing the creative team to make the movie about the more interesting Gray Hulk {talk about diverging from source material} Arad:"Nobody knows who the gray hulk is" So introduce the fucker to the public since you are rebooting the franchise anyway yo schmendrick!).
X-Men Origins:Wolverine (Too many sins to list there)

Anyway I think you get the gist. Yeah, I did see The Wolfman. It wasn't horrible or bad. Just very bland except for the wolfman make-up/CGI. There's a reason for that though: Joe was brought in to direct at the halfway point after the original director was fired. That's why the movie & it's story seem to have an uneven feel about it & why it took so long to come out. It was supposed to be released in late '08. I don't blame JJ at all for it. He was paid to clean up other people's mess.

Oh yeah I know Arad. I guess the ones that bother me the most were how he butchered Spidey and FF. To do that piece of crap in Spidey 3 and pussyfying Doctor Doom like he did should be considered crimes against humanity. I thought he and MArvel finally parted ways though, no? And Daredevil Affleck's head was too big for his costume not to mention the Dominatrix uniform he was wearing..yeesh. And I won't get into how the Abortion looked in Hulk II (yeah I still consider that a sequel cause both movies sucked).

Too bad on Wolfman cause the effects look great. Oh well. Also I guess they definitely won't have the Human Torch 1 in the Cap movie with Evens cause that would be confusing to the average fan huh?

Nah, Arad just stopped being official head of Marvel Studios. He's still bankrolling a lot of their licensed movies. Recently he has confirmed his involvement in the Venom spin-off,the Spidey reboot, X-Men First Class, Captain America, X4, the Wolverine sequel & the FF & DD reboots. He has had zero creative input into the Iron Man films & in Branagh's Thor movie.

I think seeing Toro ,Torch I ,Union Jack & Spitfire representing the Invaders in Cap's movie are more likely than seeing Namor as I believe his character rights are tied up in the FF franchise. Oh yeah I now know why the Abortion looked like that in the Hulk movie: it was apparently the Ultimates wack version of the Abomination they based it off. FAIL. :p

Oh really? Figures. I hate the Ultimates versiaon of anything. They fuck everything up. The cool thing about the Abomination was his look. He was always my fav Hulk villain as a kid and then to see what they did to him in the movie...shame. Not quite Doctor Doom movie crime there but still a major offense. I wonder why Arad is so involved still? Hollywood always makes me shake my head when it comes to hack talent constantly getting more and more chances (ie. see Kevin Smith). He must have a hell of an agent or lawyer to allow him the chance at anything to do with the second approaches of the FF, DD, Spidey, X-Men etc... You would think they'd look at their best property Iron Man and say why was this so successfull what was missing from this that the others all had? Ohhh Arad! Can that fucker! :?

Arad seems to think he's qualified to stick his hand up these movies asses just cos he briefly owned Marvel once & also cos he got the 90s X-Men & Spidey cartoons made. If memory serves right, I believe that in return from stepping down as head of Marvel Studios, he had it in his contract that he still had the rights to develop the franchises he brokered with Sony & Fox.

Ditto on Abomination being my fave Hulk villain alongside The Leader. Those 2 were/are the perfect brawn/brain compliment to the Bruce/Hulk dichotomy.

The Hollywood trades got the scoop that Sebastian Stan, one of many whom originally tested for the lead role in Marvel's The First Avenger: Captain America, has been cast as Bucky Barnes, Cap's sidekick to the previously-announced Chris Evans.

Like other actors, the star of the CW's "Gossip Girl" and before that, NBC's short-lived "Kings," has signed on to do five or six movies, but there's no word whether that might include any movies set in the present day or whether he'll appear in some form in The Avengers.

During World War II, Bucky Barnes was a teenage orphan too young to join the army, instead brought to the battlefield as a mascot. There, he discovered Captain America's true identity and convinced him to be his sidekick. He was subsequently killed while trying to defuse the exploding rocket that presumably also killed Captain America, but instead threw the war hero into the Arctic Circle where he was frozen for decades. Bucky was revived in recent years as The Winter Soldier, having been reprogrammed by the Soviets as an assassin.

With director Joe Johnston at the helm, The First Avenger: Captain America will begin filming in Europe over the summer for a scheduled release of July 22, 2011.[/center]

Marvel boss confirms what we all knew anyway.

US, April 1, 2010 - There's a Kenneth Branagh interview running today over at The L.A. Times, and while the main reason for the piece seems to be to dispel rumors of trouble on the Thor set, the article also offers up some tidbits regarding other Marvel productions.

For one thing, Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige confirms what we all essentially knew anyway: that Iron Man 2 -- which director Jon Favreau "wrapped up" yesterday -- will connect to Captain America in some way.

"Feige said the plan to meld the Marvel Universe on the silver screen will move forward dramatically now," reports the paper, "and he said there are some surprises in Iron Man 2 that set up an unexpected bond to the Captain America movie that director Joe Johnston is doing early work on now in England."

The story mentions the current casting plan for The Avengers, and in addition to Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Edward Norton as Bruce Banner is also mentioned. This seems to be more an oversight on the Times' part than a casting scoop, however, as Norton is far from confirmed for the film.

"Now many of the pieces are in place ... with Iron Man 2 finished and Thor more than halfway done, that lattice work is being built," says Feige.

Fanboy Fix: Captain America, The Avengers By: Erik Davis on April 15, 2010 at 12:07PM Joss Whedon Re-Writing 'The Avengers' and 'Captain America'?

Obviously it hasn't taken long for Joss Whedon to assimilate himself into the Marvel movie universe, as it looks like he'll have a lot more to do than just directing The Avengers. Not only will he be doing some script work on the group superhero film due out in 2012 (re-writing and polishing up Zak Penn's original script), but according to Pajiba he'll also be doing scriptwork on Captain America: The First Avenger, even though that film is scheduled to go before cameras in just a couple months from now.

There's no word on what Whedon will be adding to each film, though we imagine he'll be playing around with the continuity some to make sure Captain America bleeds into The Avengers in just the right way. After all, it's called The First Avenger, and so this will be the film that sets up the big granddaddy of them all: The Avengers.
