Goodbye Rapidshare. Alternatives?

#1

Post by zaphodz »

I've been stuck out in the middle of nowhere for work for well over half a year. Internet is kind of dialup speed.

Rapidshare has been handy for me. I can scoop up links for stuff I want then go to a major township and download maybe once a fortnight at somewhat faster than dialup speeds.

In the past few months I noticed a lot of links were getting killed off quick by Rapidshare. Now stuff often lasts a few minutes/day before it is gone.

To make matters worse, Rapidshare has its new stupid Rapids/day pricing and a totally non-functional website so you can't change any options. Time to ditch it.

Anyone got any ideas they have been using happily? Hotfile maybe? Hotheat seems to be on to it.

I was into newsgroups ages ago but haven't touched them in yonks. Worth getting back into newsgroups maybe?

Tell me what download hosts you guys are happy with these days.

MediaFire has worked great for me. Register for an account and the files remain there indefinitely.

MediaFire is indeed cool but seems not to be used by many sites. Hotfile looks pretty reasonable.

Rapidshare just updated their ridiculous system today but it still sucks so I'll probably move to Hotfile. http://rapidshare.com/news.html

Gonna investigate getting a newsgroup subscription too.

the only problem i have with Hotfile is the long waiting time between downloads as a free user.

Mediafire has no waiting time. ...and, i think Mediafire allows simultaneous downloads. (...have to verify this.)

Megaupload has only 15 secs. waiting time between downloads; but on rare occasions the download hangs.

Sendspace has no waiting time; but downloads are limited to 1GB (per day or per 12 hours?).

Depositfiles gives me "no download slots available" more often than not.

Uploading.com is excruciatingly slow for me.

4shared seems acceptable.

;)

I think by far the best one is Mediafire. Can't understand why it is as underused as it is. The other ALL suck in my estimation.

They do not allow porn or password-protected files.
They will be deleted upon notice (when they find out what it is).

I cannot stress this enough. If you upload porn, erotica, or nude sets, it will not remain there indefinitely.
I don't know what happened to their management structure over the course of the past few years, as they
seem to be more lax in checking their uploaded/hosted files (might have become too popular to check all)
but it is there in their terms of service, FAQ, and in my own experience, they will delete your naughty content.

I'm not going to get all technical, but I would recommend...
- Megaupload (best alternative to collector's / premium uploaders from RS)
- Mediafire (for any content besides scantily-clad women, but if you'd chance it, you can try)
- letitbit.net (I think this is the name of it, no file restrictions as I've seen, and very big files allowed)
- badongo.com (an old service, but as it is still around, it can be trusted.)

ones I don't like much at all:
depostfiles
flyupload

That's just pathetic on RapidShare's part.

zap!!!!!!! Good to see ya Bro..!

Megaupload has been very consistent...I haven't had a single issue with them, even when I'm not a premium user, my files have remained for years..

As a bit of a frequent hoster, I've tried all of the hosting sites...So far, only MU has held up over time...I'm wary of hotfile and the rest of these sites promising all this cash for using their service...I can assure you that's the only reason people are using them, trying to cash in on their downloads...I don't suspect that a year from now they'll be in biz...

It just depends on the site...I use Mediafire for AF only...So far so good, links are safe...For everywhere else, I pretty much use MU...Don't know much about DF, other than that it pretty much blows for non members...

I think MU would be fantastic...As long as you're only downloading one file at a time, I haven't seen much in the way of limits, plus they have a decent rewards plan...

Don't get on that much anymore, but I LOVE newsgroups...Best $3 a month ever, I've been a member for about 6 years or so now...

That's who I use...

Best site of its kind that I've seen thus far: http://www.multiupload.com/

I'll report back when I've tested all the features it promotes, but so far so good when I've seen others use it...
