Okay so my ps2 is getting pretty old and tired and I have been meaning to upgrade to a PS3 but alas havent gotten around to it. But recently I have been debating over what to get whether a ps3 or xbox 360.
As you may all be aware xbox recently brought out kinect which does look uber cool. PS3 does have move but the no controller controller does sound like a better option. But really which one is better? \
Your views and opinions may just shape my purchase.

xBox all the way! It's great to trashtalk with your buds (who may be all over the globe)while playing 'em on Call Of Duty on xBox Live. Recent gamer fave,Batman:Arkham Asylum is another game which for some reason looks & plays better on the xBox. Ps3 is only now starting to put out decent games. For the first 2 years there wasn't much to choose from.

Re: xbox 360 vs PS3
Oh ok. The major reason i was always leaning towards ps3 was the blu ray as well the the franchise of metal gear solid. I have never really played an xbox but have always been playing with ps1 the orignal and ps2. I would like some more comments before i make my decision.
As for online gaming, i doubt that I will be doing that. Since my broadband has a bandwidth that i dont want to cross at 40gigs and most of it goes into downloads anyway doubt that id be doing that.

Re: xbox 360 vs PS3
Poll doesn't seem to work...or is it just me?
I was also once in the same boat of which console to get. I debated for over a year, even well after the PS3 Slim came out and Sony dropped the price to $299.
I ended up going with the PS3 for several reasons.
1. Blu-Ray drive already included. This beauty plays everything you stick in it. DVDs are also automatically upscaled to 1080p. The Xbox 360 will never feature this capability as Microsoft has stated repeatedly. They tried an expensive HD-DVD USB add on but we all know how that went.
2. Built-in 802.11g wireless. At the time the Xbox 360 didn't have it. As far as I know, the new Xbox 360 S finally includes this. Previously it was a $79 add-on through USB.
3. Bluetooth. All wireless controllers are Bluetooth. This is both faster and farther (25 feet or more) than RF that the Xbox 360 uses for it's controllers. Also, you can lose line-of-sight and still not lose connectivity. If someone walks in front of the PS3 nothing loses it's connection. The PS3 Blu-Ray remote has this as well.
4. Slot load drive. The PS3 has a slot load Blu-Ray drive. The Xbox 360 uses a tray load. Come on, it's the year 2010 already.
5. Free internet multiplayer. The PS3 uses free access to the Playstation Network (PSN) for online multiplayer. The Xbox 360? $49 per year for Xbox LIVE.
6. Reliability. The Xbox 360 suffers from a nasty history of hardware failures. It is commonly known as the Red Ring of Death (RROD). The PS3 doesn't have this nasty history.
7. Quietness. The PS3 uses a single, large internal fan with an excellent cooling design to cool the CPU. You will rarely hear it. The Xbox 360 uses a pair of loud 60mm fans.
8. Internal power supply. The Xbox 360 uses a giant power brick that's ugly. The PS3's power supply is internal.
9. Easy to upgrade hard drive. Sony allows you to easily switch out the hard drive with a new one without voiding your warranty. The biggest you can get at this time is 750GB.
10. The PS3 will last longer. The PS3 uses a Cell processor that game developers are finally finding out exactly how powerful it is. An example is the game "Sniper: Ghost Warrior". It originally only came out for the PC and Xbox 360. City Interactive announced that it will come out for the PS3 soon with improved graphics...because only the PS3 is capable of such a thing. The Xbox 360 comes with a triple core Xenon processor. The PS3's Cell is a 6 SPE powered monster controlled by a multi-threaded PPE.
11. Better physics. The PS3 is powered by an nVIDIA RSX graphics processor, which owns Ageia's PhysX technology - also implemented in the PS3. Games such as LittleBigPlanet will simply blow you away with the game physics.
12. Uncharted and Uncharted 2. Games that are NOT on the Xbox 360 and are mind bending in game play and graphics: http://www.unchartedthegame.com/U2AT/
13. The PS3 uses less power. The current PS3 Slim uses 60W max when gaming. The current Xbox 360 S uses 135W max when gaming.
There, 13 reasons why I would highly recommend the PS3 over the Xbox 360. Like I said, I debated it for over a year.

The Kinect is going to suck when hackers get past Microsoft algorithms and peak into the homes of people across the planet using it. It's basically a webcam with motion sensing and a mic.
A hacker has already successfully hacked it to work on Linux. Most hackers use Linux so it will just get worse from there.

Yeah, I love my PS3...And I don't even really play games on it...The shit that it can do with movies and music is just great, and I love that I can control my PS3 from wherever I am with my PSP...Wouldn't trade it for nothing in the world..!

Regarding model numbers, look on the bottom of the PS3 box. The model number will be the upper right on the UPC sticker and always start with CECH. Example is mine is a CECH-2001B. Mine is the original generation PS3 Slim. It has a 65nm RSX GPU and 45nm Cell CPU and came with a 250GB hard drive. The "B" at the end of the model number indicates the larger 250GB hard drive. The "A" version came with a 120GB hard drive.Deepak wrote:So far ps3 is winning and it will probably be my new years present to myself. Any particular models I should go for, accersorries ?
The current generation are 160GB or 320GB and you are looking for model numbers starting with CECH-25XXA or CECH-25XXB. Those have a 40nm RSX GPU and 45nm Cell CPU, using the lowest power of all PS3 releases.
Accessories? I only have the Blu-Ray remote, which is like $25 USD online. It's nice because it uses Bluetooth instead of RF, so you can be in the next room and still control the PS3 (switch songs, etc). I didn't bother with the Playstation Move because if I am going to get up and be physically active I won't do it in front of a HDTV. I'm not too good with motion controls anyway, my only attempts on a Wii didn't end up too well.
I would go with the vertical stand mount though. My PS3 Slim runs cooler with it. You can get that here: http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Vertical-Stan ... 002OLV32M/
