The Thing (Prequel)
News has been circulating for a while now that John Carpenter’s icy classic The Thing is to get a prequel.
The project has been written by Battlestar Gallactica mastermind Ron Moore, who also wrote Star Trek: First Contact and a whole bunch of TV Shows including Carnivale. It will be directed by Matthijs Van Heijningen who made his name directing commercials for Toyota and Pepsi amongst others.
Rumors suggest that the prequel to the sci-fi masterpiece will center around the experiences of R. J Macready’s brother. Macready, for those of you who don’t know or remember, was the character played by Kurt Russell.
No names have thus far been linked to the project in regards to actors but rest assured that will change soon.
This should be fun.

Also, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is going to be in the movie as well..! This is one of those movies that I hardly ever hear get mentioned when you talk about all time great films of any genre, let alone horror...This shit was truly groundbreaking man...

That was a joke right,Ja? The Thing is ALWAYS cited as one of the greats of both Horror & Sci-Fi.Über wrote:This is one of those movies that I hardly ever hear get mentioned when you talk about all time great films of any genre, let alone horror...
As for this prequel, I've been hearing about this for a while now. I think in regards to prequels, It's a mostly Miss affair. The only prequel I can think of that hangs with it's original counterpart (Somehow, I think using the term predecessor whilst discussing prequels ain't right) is From Dusk Til Dawn: The Hangman's Daughter. Every other prequel I've seen thus far, from Hannibal & Wolverine to the Star Wars joints has blown mad goat. I'll wait n' see if The Thing preq works.

Oh Hell Fucking Yes! This totally looks like it's the prequel sibling of the '82 original. Can't wait! Plus y'know Winstead.

I really liked the original but I have little/no confidence in remakes and prequel/sequels these days. the PS2 game is supposedly decent.

You should watch the last Star Trek movie. I have always been a huge Star Trek fan (until Voyager) and that Star Trek "prequel" was actually amazing.shin_dr wrote:I really liked the original but I have little/no confidence in remakes and prequel/sequels these days. the PS2 game is supposedly decent.

The Star Trek reboot still has the bar raised for the most fun sci-fi adventure flick of the last 5 years.

It's actually sitting on top of my "stuff to watch" pile.jdog wrote:You should watch the last Star Trek movie. I have always been a huge Star Trek fan (until Voyager) and that Star Trek "prequel" was actually amazing.
