Remote Desktop

#1

Post by Deepak »

Hey guys,

Again I am in need of some help. I m trying to create a remote desktop connection to one of my laptops at home.

I managed to set up the remote desktop on the computer so i can use it from within the network but when I try to do it from outside the network I cant seem to find the computer even though I have the ip address and use the right port.

So can someone help me ?

Using RDP or VNC? Both should work but you need to open the port on the firewall, 3389 for RDP or 5900 (by default) for VNC. Then you need to enable port forwarding on your router. So you would connect to your ISP's IP address (the IP address given to your router) and it would forward that connection attempt to the computer you forwarded the port to.

Just use the single TCP port 3389. Make sure the "listening" computer you want to connect to has the firewall exception added.

Also be aware that if you are trying to do it from work, some companies might block that.

Also Deep, I think that this sounds like a job for Hamachi, private networking client...You should try that...
