LMDE 201109

Having trouble with this.

The install goes fine. The updating is the problem. After install:

changed /etc/apt/sources.list to be
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia testing main non-free

First update is to load the new update manager - mintupdate-debian. That goes fine.

Check for updates and it finds over 400 updates. Start updates and when installing comes back with this error:

(gtk-update-icon-cache:21890): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: Cannot open pixbuf loader module file '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders.cache': No such file or directory

checked and that file is there.

Reinstalled LMDE, checked if the loaders.cache is there before update and it is not there. Created the directories 'gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/' and copied over the 'loaders.cache' from '/usr/lib/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders'. Tried update again but same error.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

I am no expert by any means, but I find that if you have trouble updating through the manager, you can usually bypass errors and update through the terminal...Logging out of Gnome and updating has worked for me as well...

I like LMDE, I want to run it as my main OS, but only if I can get Gnome 3 to run on it...

Have you installed this version? If so did you have any problems? If not yet, let me know if you do.

LMDE w/Gnome 3 is about all I could want from Linux TBH...Its got all the bells and whistles, and more than Suse and Fedora, it has the user base rivaled only by Ubuntu IMO...As soon as it drops, I'm def. grabbing it...
