What's a good router?

Looking for a router. At least 4 ports and wireless (g, n).
Any suggestions for top of the line? and middle of the line?

You generally get what you pay for. Look for one with a good warranty though. I've had them die on me before and if you are going to spend $100+ on one then make sure it has a long warranty.

I generally use Linksys products, I haven't had any issues...All of my routers get heavy duty use and treatment, and they generally perform well...Keep in mind, placement of the router is probably as important as which brand you choose...

Start here, and using the little guide, determine which one will spread the signal based on your home size...

If you're in a neighborhood with lots of other Wi-Fi users, the dual band routers are a good look...

Top of the line: Linksys E4200 - $170
Should work just fine: Linksys E1200 - $60

Just like Ja I use Linksys without many complaints. Be aware that more expensive with SOHO generally means more bells and whistles, such as dual band 2.4 and 5GHz, simultaneous dual band, etc. I'd look up a lot of reviews. I have an older "works just fine" Linksys WRT120N because it was dirt cheap. It's a fine router for wired use although it doesn't have many features through it's control panel. It's wireless is so-so. It's supposed to be 11N but it's barely faster than 11G. The range is quite sub par.

I've been debating on a new router and I've been looking for one with the strongest range. So you might want to look for one that allows an external antennae so you can add your own.

Be aware that the internals of the router make a huge difference. Some have faster processors, more memory, etc internally and that's not on the box. I see a review below showing Linksys just released a new version of the E4200 that has better hardware:

I've had the E1200 before. Very solid little guy. Upgrade a couple months ago....but there are a couple of things I actually like better about the older one.

I went with the mid-range Linksys E2500. Would have liked their top range, but it was about twice the price.

It is working out ok. Gives me the wireless range that I need. No trouble setting up or connecting. Had it for a couple of months and has been on 24/7 with no failure. Since I have no wireless N have not tested that out, just using G.
