Topic of the Week
Should the U.S. Congress pass teh Universal National Service Act (The Draft)?
These paragraphs are directly pulled out of the Act...
"This bill requires all young Americans- men and women between 18-26-- to perform a two year period of national serice in a military or civilian capacity as determined by the President. For those who conscientiously object to war, the bill assures that any military serice would not include combat. Otherwise, there would be no preferences, no deferments, no chance for the well-off or the well-connected to dodge military service for their country, as did our President.
Reinstituting the draft may seem unnecessary to some. But, it will ensure all Americans share in the cost and sacrifice of war. Without a universal draft, this burden weighs disproportionatley on the shoulders of the poor the disadvantaged and minority populations."
[The whole thing can be viewed at www.house.gov/stark/documents/108th/univdraftstate.html ]
We need 2 people to sign up with opposite views.. WHos willing to?
P.S. Im not int his one...

the draft
I am not in dsl-mode anymore, so my visits are back to being infrequent.
but i am all for the draft, all for it. and I say that as a veteran.
I would love to take the part of the party in support of the draft, but i can at most just sit in a bit.

Okay, opening argument? I am for the draft. I think that everyone would have a much greater appreciation for their freedom and for this country if they have to fight for it. It seems that many teens and young adults dont have much respect for the freedoms and liberties that they have today and dont give a rats ass about what our service men and women are doing for us. It should be required for every man and woman 18-26 to give atleast two years to the service. I think it would not only humble down the new generations, but would also unite the country on a whole new level.

i would like to be an impartial judge. i may be knew in posting, but i have been viewing this for little bit and have been involved in other site but none quite as deep as this. someone recommended this site to me and so here i am.
"If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if at the bottom of everything there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?"

** On Rant **
Welcome to the site, trashtalkr...
Haha, with a name like that, you ought to fit right in...You are more than welcome to use the forum for whatever means you see fit, whether it be a good debate such as this one, sharing songs, playing games, or downloading hotties...Welcome...
QUOTEsomeone recommended this site to me
Reading that is the ultimate elation for someone who knew nothing about running their own forum 2 months ago...This is why I work so hard on it...That is the ultimate compliment to me, and to the rest of us here that take time out of their day to post here...A forum full of intelligent people...Imagine that...
* off rant *
I agree w/luvbugin, as well as add that the only people afraid of the draft are those that are cowardly...If you don't like America, move man...I'm tired of everybody that lives here complianing, when the average American has it 10 times better than somebody somewhere else...So, kill the noise, and support your country...And if it means that we all be put on a level playing field to defend it, so be it...

we all almost agree it's a great idea, the question is: are we going to spend the rest of our live saying this is great and not starting ever?
When it will Officially start?
Who are the contestant and who the judges?
Is it going to be run in this same thread or in elsewhere as here while the debate is running will come someone to post beetween their arguments and converting it into a kaos?
let's start people, or at least say wich topic you'd like to discuss as the current suggestion is basic chinese to me.
BTW: that's ok with saying you are for the debate of DRAFT the important thing is to specify wich side you'd like to defend.
PS: Advices to Ahyja
About Avatar: Ahyja you should put a simple logo by default for those who do not choose avatar (Example: ) so that make them motivate to change it.
About the subforums: Ayhja i think this is a perfect example that proves my point. Logic post this (15 Nov 2004) no one reply to it so yesterday (19 Oct 2004) i started browsing i see this almost forgotten great idea luckly to all of us the idea could be kept alive otherwise it would have been forgotten and Logic might have thought it was a non-intresting post
