What did 'Jesus' do when he was physically dead?
3 days on earth "dead"..what was happening during this time? ie, what purpose did his 3 days of not suckin' air serve?

As I recall (hope I'm getting this right), he came back to prove to his apostles that although physically dead, he nonetheless had not abandoned them, nor others on this earth.

A good start...
QUOTE(bd55)So that his death would have time to become an accepted fact?
I think that this is a good reason to start with...I'm sure that whatever the reason was for the the exact time period, has something to do with the Quamran faith or way of life that Jesus had, that he spent studying during that long ass gap in the bible where he went from like a teenager to a 30 year old...It is just a hunch, but I'm sure that it's in the ballpark at least...
That has always been one of the most fascinating things about the story of Jesus, that even the son of God had to spend a very significant amount of time adapting the man's way of things...With his surrounding family, there is no way that they would have hailed him as the Messiah if he had not done those things...

^^that's a very good point about they wouldn't of called him the Messiah if he hadn't done those things.
Personally, I believe that when Jesus was "dead" he was down in hell "defeating" the devil. He didn't physically defeat him, but spiritually. he showed that death doesn't have control over him. i read somewhere that the devil was rejoicing when Jesus died b/c he thought that Jesus could be conquered by death and therefore he (the devil) could take everyone to hell b/c Jesus couldn't stop death. he also rejoiced b/c he thought that Jesus would be his son then. i dunno what to think about that, it was just something interesting that i read

I think it might be time to summon the name so he can spit some light in here...
As far as I understand it...brudda man wasn't dead, actually. The abuse was indeed much for even the strongest of humans... so much so that it wasn't even a matter of physical capacity, which in this case would have been completely useless given the brutality that was said to have been inflicted on JC. If in fact this episode is historically and chronologically accurate, I believe he simply willed to shutdown. This reaction has been recorded in victims of extreme torture and or exhaustion, where the body simply shuts everything but the essential functions, giving itself its time to heal. It has also been documented that this practice can and has been willed. This also explains why he was sportin scars or "stigmata" even after resurrection, he had healed, he didn't "come back".

In my discussions w/RAUM, I'm leaning more and more towards the idea that many of the stories we hear out the Haysoos are taken or borrowed from other places...
Assuming, however, that there is much truth in the myth, and lore, what x3n makes alot of sense...There was movie that came out, a LONG time ago, where there was a sect of VooDoo practitioners, that did this very thing...Died, so to speak...I want to say that the name of the movie was called, "The Serpent and The Rainbow..."
I also know, that it in ancient Egypt, before the new Pharoah became Pharoah, the old Pharoah had to "die"...And since Jesus spent SEVERAL years learning the secrets of the Egyptians, as did Moses, I wouldn't suspect that him practicing them was far off...
