For some reason, many of us think that the world is going to end...We'd all probably like to think that it will happen I think, for a reason I don't know...Maybe it is something that we tell ourselves as motivation...
I for one think that we are headed to hell in a handbasket, but it doesn't have too much to do with Mayan Calendars...That site provides a very interesting astrological facts as to why the Mayans would have opted to end their calendar that date...
I figure this is as good a place as any for us to find our own information, and discuss points that we come across...So, check it out, and lets get started...

To be honest, I wouldn't mind too much if the world ended in 2084. As long as it was no earlier than 2084.
Well, I don't mind that the world will end then. But I know for a fact it will end in 5 billion years time, but by then we'll be living on another planet.

I don't remember the verse, but God said in the Bible that no one will know the exact time the Lord will return or when the world will end. I'm sure people pretend like they know, but they really don't
"If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if at the bottom of everything there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?"

QUOTE(adiriel)timbo, Â
are you related to this guy www.timecube.com?
just a hunch...
Nup, no philosphers I know of in my family.
There are two entities- zero and infinity, ie nothing, or everything. I reckon they are really one in the same origin, but the direction you move towards them depends which entity you are percieving.
0 + 1 = 1 position in a positive direction away 0. One position towards infinity in a positive direction.
0 - 1 = 1 position in a negative direction from zero, and counting in a negative direction towards infinity, "counting back".
So I don't agree there are two infinities, rather two perceptions of the origin.
And I don't give a damn if people don't believe that, I won't slam them as EVIL if they don't agree in full or part.

stealing oil???
are you kidding me? We have consistently gotten more than 80% from the US and CANADA.
Some of the oil we get from the middle east offsets our exports. Yes, we BUY oil from the Middle East, refine it, and sell it at a loss in the global market.
After supporting our exports into the oil market, we keep about 2%.
Just so you know, 18,324,142 of 23,074,630 kbp (thousands of barrels of oil) shipped from the middle east actually did not get resold AT A LOSS. It is offset by 4,750,488 kbp that were exported.
That 18,324,142 is about 12% total of our 142,452,314 oil production and inports into the US. Of that, some 1.2 Those numbers are for our last 13 years, from 1993-2005.
For the record, US and Canada have the largest Oil Relationship in the entire world.
We sell oil at a 4-5% loss on the international market, to allow impoverished countries to contribute to the equitable petroleum market, which in many cases is their only chance for being anything but a welfare state.
We have more oil in Nevada than the is in the entire Middle East. We started buying Arab oil to help them establish themselves after spending ages as european colonies. we were literally throwing it away for a while.
