Best Runnning Back of All Time

In leau of Emmit Smith retiring, who is the best RB of all time?

It's a tough question with Payton, Sanders, and Smith as the top 3 for me. I'd have to say Walter Payton.

What do you think?

Jim Brown MUST be added to the poll; however in light of me wearing his jersey at the momment and loving the team he played for and everything about his running style and him as a person. I'm gonna go with Walter Payton. They man only ran out of bounds roughly 14 times in his career, take that all you pussy runningbacks who don't wanna take the hit, he believed in making defenses pay for trying to tackle him, I loved watching him play and I loved the way he carried himself. Without a doubt the best runningback in my mind, of all time.

I say Jim Brown for all the reasons you named Waler Payton...

It came down to those two for me...I wanted to think of a great all around back, but shit...If running is what they do, then running is what they do...If I had to rank my Top 5 in no particular order, I'd go with
  • Jim Brown
    Walter Payton
    O.J. Simpson
    Barry Sanders
    Earl Campbell
    • A couple more posts from some different folks, and we can get this debate started...

Earl Cambell??? While he was fun to watch, you cant put him in the same class as those guys. If he's on your list, where is Billy Sims, and Christian Okoye?

AYHJA, AYHJA, AHYJA.......no Emmit Smith??? WTF.....he did it all, blocked, caught passes, played hurt, and has 3 superbowl rings. Oh yeah, he's also the all time leading rusher.

As a runner nobody beats Barry, but all time best running back has got to be Mr. Brown.

Next topic.

Barry Sanders was incredible to watch. I remember some old Thanksgiving games Lions vs Packers I believe where before commerical break they'd just show his legs while he ran.....unbelievable.

AYHJA, I tried to add Jim Brown to the poll but I couldn't. Maybe you could?

Man, don't get me wrong...

Emmit was talented...But the Dallas Cowboys had a fuckin' offensive line that was AWESOME...I am not even a Dallas Cowboy fan at all, and I can remember at least 4 names that threw down blocks for him in the Cowboy Heyday...

You're in Michigan, and would do well to do the same for Barry Sanders...

If Barry Sanders had the type of talent around him that Emmit did..??? Man, he would have smashed that record...Emmit has the record by default, we all know that joint should have went to Barry... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I answered this question not from a point of Statistics, but from rather who I would want on my team...Fair enough comment about Earl Campbell by the way, I can't argue with that...Something about seeing a muthafukka get KILLED on defense hypes things up a little more...Point taken on that...

But, Jim Brown just nasty man...And angry fuckin' huge big black dude with a fucked up attitude and teh physical skills to complement that shit...A nigga playing with a chip on his shoulder..? Yeah, I'll take some of that running out of my backfield ANY day, as sad as it may sound...

Not no more bro, players are bigger and stronger nowdays and J-B couldn't handle everyone, watch Ray Lewis or John Lynch or B-Dawk MURDER that fool. I love Payton, but the same kinda goes for him, so I gotta say I'd take Barry Sanders on my team. Who cares if they're strong and big and will break your legs off and beat you with them.....when you dance around them and make them look silly?

The answer always depends on the question....best, IMO Walter Payton....who i would take on my team, in light of my response only a minute ago I would say Barry, even tho yeah he would have smashed Payton's record, I'm just a WP fanboy /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
