It's always love...

Man, it really isn't that big of deal, as in I'm not upset or mad at you or some shit like that, I promise you...It just looked crazy to me, and I wondered why it didn't look crazy to you...And I'm not sure how you're cuttin' it, but if you aren't cuttin' it as that I'm lookin' out for you, then you ain't cuttin' it right...

When I first met RAUM, I was quoting...And when asked what it meant, I stumbled, if I even said something at all...I NEVER thought you were being a bigot...This was a "Hey, your fly is open," moment...I see a different angle to myself everyday man, reading what is typed here...

I fully understand that where you live may not bear the scars of where I'm from, it would be silly of me to think that the whole world is like where I live...But, unless you intend to stay there your whole life, and I don't think you do, then it is wise to watch out for that kind of thing...You may as well start being conscious of your image now...Cause you let some shit slip, and militant minorities will eat your ass...

Senator Trent Lott, for example...He gave what he thought was a complement to Strom Thurmond at his...Like...156 birthday party or some shit...The next thing you know, they were callin' for his job...And they GOT it...He made an off the wall complement that he probably didn't even mean in the way it was taken...He was defending a life of public service to one funky fuckin' sentence...

Maybe somebody should have told Eminem that same thing before he recorded that audio when he was 16...You think he didn't loose a few fans behind that shit..? That word coming from anybody BUT a black person will get you looked at funny...My whole point is to say that shit is still fresh and alive on MANY people's minds...It fucking sucks, yes, but did you read what DeepDiver said..?

Saying that word doesn't make you racist...Don't even come close..But even in quoting it, and saying it...You may as well be...You know me, you know the conversations that we have...How many times have I said, "Be yourself, have your own, etc..." When you asked me about the Lil Flip video on you page, you remember what I said..? You know that's what I'm about...

And I hate to come off like I'm preachin', but if this site is about expressing yourself anyway you see fit, then that's what it's about...That means coming under fire and being able to defend yourself, your points of view and statements...

A reason to both love and hate the place...But that's life...

No no, i understand you are not mad..

Still, I am not quite understand why its a huge deal..

If you said in your sig..

"I see all these white people, tryna act thug/
Well jus watch till these white crackas get smacked up//"

and it was your line, then that would offend me (theoretically speaking, iont really give a fuck actually lmao)

But if that was a line by Eminem, who cares, he can say that (doesnt exactly make sense but see the point..).

The way the word was used, it mine as well have said "people" instead, for thas all Kweli meant when he said it..

I mean, what am I not supposed to write one of the truest lines I have ever heard because of the N word? When a black person said it? And when it absolutely doesnt suggest anything negative?

Iono, I mean would it help if I wrote n****'s instead? Doesnt seem like that would make a difference, except superficially..

I would be right there with you if someone jus spit it out, a white person i mean. But man, I go to a lot of these boards (not a lot, but i mean i have been to a couple and been active) and the general rule is if it is quoted, its part of a song, and if there is no racist innuendo and the line is good, it is usually not a prollem..

QUOTE(deepdiver32073)

Deeje, I don't know what I can say to you to help you understand that some of the views you've posted are pretty damned disturbing from a variety of points of view.  I really don't.

How is it that I can understand your perspective, knowing the culture was different back then, anc can see all yall older cats' views..

But you seem to rarely understand mine...I mean its one thing to relate to what I am going through if you will, stuff like that, then explain from my culture's perspective why I should change. Its another thing to try and son me with all these thoughts (that may be true, that may not be) that dont really relate to w'sup nowadays..

Tthe culture has changed completely, and tho N is a word filled with hate but that is not how it is presented anymore. Rappers throw it out left and right, yet yall dont have any sympathy for me at all, saying that I am wrong in everything..

In the context Kweli used it, he meant nothing by it (again, not promoting, but). The focus was on the other words in the line. I was hoping people would realize that in the same way Kweli jus said it like that for no real reason, that is how I meant it to come off..

Again, I see where you guys are coming from, which is why I changed it even tho I dont totally agree with it. But yall jus come up and say I am wrong and my views are fucked, ...*sigh*..............................maybe they are in your eyes, but I am real, as I said, and do everything I can to stay that way. I would not have put that up if I was trying to suggest anything besides a true statement..

Yea, yall are older and wiser, but I always wondered why kids rebel away from they parents and everyone else, party like hell in college, pimp the hoes and ruin they lives till they learn shit for themselves..Why is it like that? People are not THAT stupid. We are selfish in nature, and we always want whats best for us (theoretically). So why do we want to fuck up our lives? We dont understand why we believe them, that is why. Older cats aint present the info in a good enough way that we relate to, so we stray from it. True?

To quote Kweli one last time..

"Ya can't talk to them (youth) unless you relatin' to what they goin' through/
So busy ignorin' 'em, you cant see what they showin' you//

It wouldnt suprise me if a lotta yall aint even heard of Talib Kweli, think Ecko is a sound effect spelled wrong, and wouldnt wear ice because "uhh...its cold?" LoL, /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Oh, believe me, I feel you...Like I said, if you feel the need to rep it, man, then rep it...But I also wanted you to fully understand what it is you're repping...That is just me...I'm very image conscious...I don't like 666 Mafia, for example...They don't worship the devil that I know of, but you don't have to be religious to know what that means...As a person that loves music, I can't support that...That is true of me...I don't care if that shit bumps or not...

I work really hard to be my own person...I don't want my influences to become me, I like to have my own thoughts, and my own words...I didn't want you to change it, but to consider how it looks...

If but only a superficial consideration, writing N***a would have shown that you were at least conscious of the word, if not the idea...That may seem like something small to you, but it shows a TON character wise...You write the line, because of it's potency...That's cool as a fan...And you definitely can't make everybody happy, that's for damn sure...

My original question was meant to be...How can you REALLY know anything about niggas in the hood, and with guns no less..? I was looking at that quote and seeing something completely different...I was only looking for your angle, nothing more...In my eyes, that looks like somebody writing a rap about being locked up, and how hard it was, but talking about being on punishment rather than actually being in a prison...

You quoting that line...Couldn't it just as easily mean that you know PLENTY about that lifestyle...? Shouldn't it mean that you know plenty about that lifestyle..?

If you had written back, "Yeah, I'm white, but I grew up in a neighborhood where I was the only white guy, went to a school where I was the only white guy in a class, been turned down for a job cause I was a white guy that hung out with nothing but black people, etc," I could DEFINITELY respect that...You quoting that then...Gives that quote a whole new meaning, agreed..?

I don't know shit about your hood, or how you grew up, if you came up hard and all that...I didn't assume, that's why I asked...It wasn't that it was racist, but how would you expect someone who DID come up like that to interpret you quoting it (and thus representing it) if you did not grow up or experience that enviroment..?

And for the record, I have been listening to Black Star and hip hop since day one...I am a big, big fan of music...I have been a fan and watched hip hop be born right in front of my eyes...I remember the birth of rhyme itself man, so my POV is not one from ignorance...

That's that age thing again...Hahahahahaha...Live on Youngblood..!!

yea, i did think about that a lil, realizing this wasnt a board of 16-22 year old rap fans, it was probably percieved a little differently..

If but only a superficial consideration, writing N***a would have shown that you were at least conscious of the word, if not the idea...That may seem like something small to you, but it shows a TON character wise...You write the line, because of it's potency...That's cool as a fan...And you definitely can't make everybody happy, that's for damn sure...

shows a ton character-wise? Ehh, iono, it would show that I was worried about offending people, which I am not. I see where you are coming from, but is there a real difference between fuck and f***? I know this is a lil bigger than that, but..ehh..maybe..

What does the quote have to do with any of that? The quote may use 'hood terms' but the message is a universal truth. Guess I jus thought peeps would see through that..No, I aint from no hood, but I know knowledge is power, yet is often pusued for the wrong reasons, and that needs to change..Its not like I quoted, \"in my hood, we aint scared of no fuckin police\"..that would be more like what you are saying imo..

You quoting that line...Couldn't it just as easily mean that you know PLENTY about that lifestyle...? Shouldn't it mean that you know plenty about that lifestyle..?

I know plenty about what it was saying, if that is what you are asking. I still dont see, jus cause Kweli carelessly used n****s insteada people, now it all of a sudden becomes a \"you can only understand this line if your from Compton\" line?

If you had written back, \"Yeah, I'm white, but I grew up in a neighborhood where I was the only white guy, went to a school where I was the only white guy in a class, been turned down for a job cause I was a white guy that hung out with nothing but black people, etc,\" I could DEFINITELY respect that...You quoting that then...Gives that quote a whole new meaning, agreed..?

Ehh, I could be from the hood, happen to be totally ignorant, smoke week all day, etc. and write that, and i think i would hold A LOT less credibility to post it then, than i do know, since it has to deal with a very true, deep thought..

That's that age thing again...Hahahahahaha...Live on Youngblood..!!

One day...

When you get to be big time...And you get time to come back this site where we will be much older and wiser...And fatter men, LoL, you will come chop game with a youngster who reminds you of yourself a little bit...And you'll be thinking, damn...I'm gettin' old, WTF is he talkin' about..?

And at that moment, you'll think about some of these wild ass P.O.V's and baby lessons you may learn here...And they'll be CRYSTAL Son...Life is lovely like that...

Godspeed to you...
